High Flow cats...

Where is the best place to get a good high flow cat? I was having trouble with my trap speed at the track the other week and I am hoping it is something as minor as a clogged cat, because I know I have no replace it, I have no idea if it was replaced before.

I took a look at Jegs but didn't know which one is the one that I need. If someone could help me out with a link or a part number for a decent priced one I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Your going to have to weld it so just look for a universal stainless 3". Check ebay. Shouldnt be more than $70.

I got my Carsound high-flow cat from performancepeddler on EBAY. $45 shipped.

They flow great and are constructed very well. They flow about 31% better than stock converters, from data I've seen.

Well, since you asked for the best place to get a cat, and didn't specify that you wanted the cheapest cat, I'd say go with a Random Technology cat. You can pick one up from one of the several supporting vendors. Check out the tech page on their website and you'll see why I think they're the best.

The quality was excellent on the one I bought. I wouldn't pay any more, even if I were looking for a "high quality cat", because I think these are among the best. A true "bang for the buck"

I dynoed the numbers in my sig going through a single Carsound high-flow cat. Only engine mods are CAI, MAC Headers, Carsound Cat, and Catback.

Will one of these work for my car?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33629

I am assuming that ours are a 3 inch in and out. Is that true?

That seems like a damn good price and it may be worth it if it fits the car. Any help is appreciated

Well, mine was Carsound model 94109
Looks like it's now $60 including shipping.

Yes, it's 3" in and out.

Here is an article that shows how the Carsounds perform.

I bought the 3" ball and flare fittings that I needed from MAC for $40 shipped.

Here's my CAT ready to be welded:

That is what is called a 3 way plus oxidation converter. It seems to be a cat they are trying to say is good for any Camaro or Firebird?

taken from Random Tech's Tech Page
Although “three-way plus oxidation” type converters were prevalent during the 80s, that’s no longer the case. With improvements in washcoat technology, and improved control of air/fuel ratios, the need for additional oxygen has been eliminated. Some vehicle manufacturers have continued to use oxidation converters on some models, but typically that has been done to use up inventory. As an example, the Corvette and Camaro Z/28 were equipped with oxidation converters through 1991 and 1992 respectively. But when the LT1 engine replaced the L98 (1992 in Corvette, 1993 in Camaro) three-way converters with no air tubes were incorporated.
The added tube sticking out the side is for air to be injected in between the bricks. Newer cats are more efficient and do not require the added oxygen to be injected. Seems to me someone has a surplus of old cats hanging around and is selling them on e-bay as universal cats. Remember, you get what you pay for ... platinum is not cheap, so for $35, they definitely had to save $$ somewhere in the design..

Our cars do not use a smog pump that injects oxygen into the cat ... the smog pump in our cars pumps air into the manifolds until the motor gets hot enough to allow the bricks in the cats to start performing the catalyst process; then the A.I.R. pump shuts off.

So basically, ya .... you could use that cat in your exhaust; I wouldn't use it in mine, but that's just me. I'd rather have something that is made for my car, rather than something that is 'so called universal' for all cars.

People will usually answer a post like this with what they feel is "the best", which is usually what they have on their own car. Don't take anyone's word for what cats are best ... do the research and make an educated decision for yourself.

... there's my $0.02, for whatever it's worth ...

Thomas.

What is the difference between the 93441 and the 94109 that was mentioned by steromandan? I may be interested, how much are you looking to get for it shipped to 12180?

Just let me know
Thanks

Car Sound 93441 is a direct replacement for 1993-95 Camaro & Firebird with the 350 LT1 engine. The converter has a 3" inlet and is flanged at the back (3") to connect to your stock or aftermarket cat-back exhaust system.
