Were those possibly the last two cylinders you checked? Did you disable the injectors before running the test? Any sort of liquid in the cylinders will bump up the compression readings.

Frankly I would call the ones that were 180 low. 220 would be a little high for a stock motor. The b-body LT1 was 10.0 compared to the f-body 10.4 and even the b-body usually cranks 195-205, my wagon cranked that at 180K miles.

The modded Caprice with thin head gasket and milled heads cranks more like 230.

I would probably expect 210 or thereabout from a good clean stock f-body motor.
If it does turn out some cylinders are cranking low I would try a cleaning before assuming excessive wear.
AutoRX is a good ester based engine cleaner, slow but safe and actually a better lubricant than the oil you dump it into.

Did you have all the plugs out? Did you block the throttle blades open? Was the engine at operating temp? Did you crank each cylinder the same number of times? Was the battery staying strong? Did you disable fuel? Unless you controlled everything very carefully, you can end up with results all over the place. A compression test is a very crude test.

If the testing was done right and the motor is stock I would be more concerned about the 180psi cylinders. In my experiance that is low, and I think some lowerend chemical(not solvent) cleaning may correct it.

Years ago 180psi was considered quite high and getting to be the limit for pump gas. With the LT1 though that is FAR from the case, like I said the lower compression Caprice motor cranks 200psi even at high milage and ti runs great on 87 octane.
You need to relearn whatever it is you knew about proper compression readings.
