Help! very frustrated! 2 the piont I may sell

Ok, little back ground. I got the car to run great finally after H/C install. I just replaced the fuel pump, tranny mount and torque arm bushing. Well went to start car and it idled fine but idled really rough. It stalled and will not start, I was getting 42 psi of fuel pressure. I let it cool. It started for about 3 minutes and stalled and would not start. It did this about 7 times . So put the old pump back in and now the same problem. So I pull the the drivers side plugs, They are full of gas. I replace with dry plugs. Car starts and idles rough then dies with the new plugs.

I have no clue where to look now. I'm going to pull all plugs and replace them. I just don't understand how a fuel pump change can cause so many problems.

Vacuum leak? Something that could be throwing off the O2's? Dirty maf?

Ok, the charging system is fine, I figured it was. There no reason it should go bad just because of a fuel pump change.

Any one have any ideas?

Did you cross the fuel lines coming in/out of the pump housing or rail? I did it on my old car

why would you swap out the pump if it had 42psi?
my car only has 38 and it runs great. 35-45 is normal according to mitchell
anyways, it has to be either a plugged maf or a vacume leak like stated above or as also stated above ignition related.
dont think that just because that opti is new that it cant be bad, all it takes is one drop of water in the right spot and it`s done. i personally would look at the spark, it seems like your loosing spark after something gets warm.

good luck man

Re: Help! very frustrated! 2 the piont I may sell

Car would run for a second or 2 at a time then shutoff, sometimes wouldnt even start. After 3 hours of doing it a friend told me to check the lines and sure enough they were reversed.

Another thing that made my plugs smell of gas was my TPS Voltage was way off but I was still able to drive the car, it was just a pain to get it started

Again these things were with a Nissan not a Camaro/Firebird

Hope you figure it out

You may want to check plugs from both sides, if only one side is fouled then you have an O2 sensor problem on that side. Vacuum leak sounds about right to me though, that was the problem on my car, it just took longer to die. Goodluck!

Well I wanted to put a walboro in it. That why I changed it. Then I put the stocker back in. So going from running perfect to not running at with in 3 hours, I really don't think the igintion system is the problem.

You never know, i've heard some crazy stuff like people changing a thermostat and then their car doesnt run because of a bad opti. Sometimes all it takes is one drop of coolant/gas/oil etc. and your opti is done.

and did you remove anything from the engine at all when you did the fuel pump? did you already check the above things?
it really sounds like a vacume leak or some dirt on the maf or something. what about the fuel lines, are they on the correct sides?
