Dropped keeper

I couldn't sleep. I'm sure nobody else knows how to find one of these devils but figured laying there sleepless over it.... that asking around couldn't hurt.

I was swapping out my valve seals w/ the engine in the engine bay. It was going very smoothly... until on exhaust valve cylinder 2 the keepers were stuck. So I gave it a good grunt and they came loose and went flying. They are 15 degree keepers for my comp cams dual valve springs. I found one of them immediately. It had fallen under the car. Then I searched EVERYWHERE for the other for about an hour. Anybody know of any crevicies that are good to look in?????? I so hope it didn't go down into my lifter valley. From what I could see it wasn't down there... I use guide plates so I figured there wasn't much of a chance for it to slip in there. However, I figure I'll have to pull the intake if I don't find it sooner or later .

Re: Dropped keeper

Impossible to say where it went. I don't even touch the keepers without a magnet right there next to them.

Re: Dropped keeper

Gosh I'm pulling my hair out Was using a magnet however, I set it down for this one cause it needed that little extra grunt, both hands. (I'm using a breaker arm style compressor). Well I probubly should pull the intake anyways. I had found chuncks of valve seal ontop of my heads... sigh... i should have just pulled the motor. oh well. thanks for the help!

Re: Dropped keeper

I have a theory that when you drop something between the engine and the wheel well that it actually dissapears. I dropped a keeper down there along with a ring my GF gave me...didnt fall out on the ground!!???!!! Looked for hours and didnt find either???

Re: Dropped keeper

Didn't know they made 15* keepers!!! If that lock hasn't went in the engine then it's probably resting on the k-member.

Re: Dropped keeper

That was my thought too. There isn't much else down there for it to rest on. So I search most of the time on that. I'm going to lift the engine up here to double check my bolts on the oil pan (seems to be leaking a tad) and then I'm going to take a closer look at that.

Talk about puting a hinderence on my work! Hopefully I can find it and get back in gear.

Thanks a bunch. I was able to sleep after posting last night
