Angry HELP! Transmission holds gears - Then WONT shift!

Alrite guys, me and my buddy were coming from his house, back to mine today, cruising along and come to a 3-way intersection. He gives it about 1/4 throttle, and it holds 1st gear to 4500RPMS WTF??? Then it holds 2nd to 4k, and we're thinking "oh great" (keep in mind he previously owned a 94 Z28 that went through 2 transmission within 2k miles - thats another story though). So we get to the next intersection, main stretch, he does the same thing and it holds gears.

We get onto my road (we live pretty close) and I told him to mash it for the hell of it, no harm done right? Well, he puts the right pedal to the floor, and it downshifts into 2nd (we're doing 30, it usually loves to go to 1st and scream)... it downshifts to 2nd, at 2500 or 3k rpms, and wont go anywhere

So then it cools off for 15 minutes or so, go down the road and it wont go above 1500RPMs and wont downshift.... an hour later, I take it back out by myself, 25mph, floor it, and it downshifts into 2nd, got up and went a little bit, and then a high pitch squeel comes out from underneath of it, stayed in it for a split second, kept doing it, then I let off of it. Turn around, punch it again, no squeel, but it downshifts, but for some reason, doesnt have the ***** to REALLY want to go We talked for a while, hes really upset, his 4th fbody within 2 years (yeah, up until this point, hes really loved em ) and decided to get it towed away, fixed, and its going up for sale... my question... what could ever explain the problem that hes having??? Talked to a few people and none have a clue what the problem could be... holding gears... then it wont downshift.... then it acts fine but doesnt have enough power to spin the tires even... PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance guys, have turned you people before and really got some good advice!

yeup, checked that when it was runnin around 200 degrees or so (loves to run real hot for some reason) and it checked full on the "80 degrees" mark... color was rosy red and little bit opaque how its supposed to be... but its been that way for a while, and now it has no problem upshifting or downshifting... she just doesnt wanna go...

I had the same type of problem. It turned out being ther throttle position sensor. The car would rev up to about 5500 rpm in first then shift. I thought my transmission was all ****** up but it turned out being just a really cheap and easy fix.

Hopefully it would be your TPS sensor. Sooooo easy to replace. It'll take you all but about 5 minutes.

However, my transmission has blown again, thanks to a sorry-*** rebuild by Chesapeake Transmission. I'm having my trans done at a competent shop this week.

Mine only has 2nd gear. When I put it into Drive, it bangs hard into 1st gear, and will shift up into 2nd, and that's it. Then, after I stop, I just have 2nd gear.

Well, all my problems will come to an end soon enough.

wellll, me and my buddy went to pick up his car today, and for whatever reason, it ended up being a clogged cat... and man, leme tell you, IT WAS CLOGGED! Felt like it had a new set of gears w/ cold air induction, its much better now. Shop put on a new hi-flo cat, car warms up quicker, although the fan is still weird, and no more shifting problems (I still dont believe the cat was causing that, but who am I to say such a thing). Just thought I'd update you guys and let you know, thanks for the advice, and keep showing the LS1s those LT1 tail-lights hehe, j/k
