Help on Thermostat

Nas anyone ever knocked the center out of a thermostat and run it in a 94 Camaro, A guy told me he did it and it made his car run more consistant on the Dragstrip, And by the way is is a 350 engine. Thanks

Cool

Will not work properly since it is a reverse cooled LT-1. You can leave the thermo out, but it will run hotter than usual. Or break down and spend the $18 on a 160 unit.

Yes, never run without a stat or fiddle with it(i.e cutting it up).

Well, without the thermostat, the coolant does not have time to fully absorb the heat from the engine. Thats why they have the thermostats in there. Without one, coolant will just keep flowing without stoping therefore actually making it run hotter even if the coolant is cooler. Hope this makes since, i type fast.

A guy told me that he took his out, took out the center and put it back in so it would have some restriction on it. He said that it runs more more consistent at the dragstrip and that driving down the road that it never gets hotter than around 180. He has got his fans fixed to come on as soon as the key is turned. I have my fans on a switch where I can turn them on at anytime. So the car wouldnt run hot with the fans going. So could you do this on my 97 camaro or would it cause other problems other than running hot. This guy tells me that it works. Any other comments.

well, it will take longer for ur engine to warm up, but once it does it will get hot quick like mine would idle at about 225 or so, and i didnt realize i didnt have a thermo (car came that way) but once u started moving it would slide down to about 205-215 someplace in there now i idle at about 205 and when moving im at like 185, but as soon as u stop it gets hot quick again... and after a long drive, it would overheat

It wouldnt get hot if you had a switch to have the fans going as it was getting hot. Right???

i donno, i went on a 60 mile drive, and the water was too hot for the fans to cool it, u could hear it boiling in there and the second fan couldnt cool it down, but if u get both fans cooling it before the water gets hot u might be better off

Would it cause a problem with the computer or anything like that. Heck, anymore if you hit a bump in the road it effects the computer. I mean would it cause the check engine light to come on or would it affect the way the car drove
