Help ... Stupid distibuter question

Got another LT1 , totalled Z28 , the engine was pulled to do some of the resto work. I bought it with basically everything off the motor. Unfortunatly the distributor was removed. The ditributor has 3 holes in it for the protruding shaft of the cam to mesh up to. However , how do i tell which of the 3 holes it needs to be meshed up with? The distrib was not marked when takin off so i have no way of figuring out which hole it was in when it was removed. However, the timing chain was on the enitre time if that helps. It is possible tho that the engine could have been cranked by the previous owner without the distributer on ... What is the easiert way to get all the timing issues rite ? I called a dealership and talked to the service department and they told me my guess was as good as theirs ...

Install this way . It does not matter what position the dowel pin is, as long as the special slot goes over it.
