It's really beneficial to have a buddy hold the header. On my pacesetters I threaded all the bolts in by hand and tightened them using a short 3/8s open end wrench.

Most people don't use any of the hardware/gaskets that come with the headers. Almost everyone uses ARP or Stage 8 locking bolts for their headers.

Re: help stuck on header install, how to tightem bolts???

I've been using the same set of Stage 8 header bolts for at least 2 header swaps and 3 head swaps :^) The allen head is a big help, also pick up a set of ignition wrenches from sears. one of them is a 7/16" right angle wrench it's a huge help in those hard to reach areas beside the primaries.

Another thing I always do is clean the threads with a thread chaser before trying to re-install bolts, makes a huge difference. If you don't have a chaser set a tap set can be used, just be gentle, clean between every hole and I keep it lubed with WD40 to help collect the garbage from the threads. It makes enough difference to where you can pretty much finger tighten the header bolts, otherwise unheard of.

Hope this helps,
Christian

Stage 8 are locking and have a allen headed bolthead, they go for about 40 bux a set. YOu will need part #8911A SB Chevy locking header bolt kit 3/8" - 16 X 1"

It is possible...i already told you what needs to be done...its really not that hard. IF you cant get it by yourself, get someone to hold the header for you

I don't even bother with sockets on Lt1 header bolts, just use a box wrench, little tip, cut the wrench in half so you can get more of a swing on it, tehn have another full lenght one to put full torque on it, works great!
