You can't drive it without the steering column.
Take the switch off the column and plug it into the connectors. Then you can manipulate the switch to start the engine. You will have to bypass the PassKey system, too.

i know that shoebox
what i mean is... i disconnected the wires from the steering column and unbolted it from the linkage near the exhaust manifold, and from the firewall... its still IN in the car... i rebolted it up but i need to know:
how many connections (and which ones) i need to simply plug back into their place to get the car running...
i never thought i was gonna have to start it again, but i have to now so that a buyer can see/hear it run
(i was originally just gonna sell the engine apart, but hes buying the whole car)
im pretty sure the batteries dead, which is why it wouldn't start even before the stuff was taken apart... so i rehooked the battery (i had taken it out)
and i rebolted the steering column, then i checked all the fuses (they were fine) and i checked the resistors on the keys.....
now i need to plug the neccesary plugs back into the column to get the ignition working
i don't need to splice/hook up wires or anything...
just plug stuff back in...
which plugs, and how will i recognise them, do i have to JUST PLUG BACK INTO THE COLUMN to get the ignition working
i think that should clarify
thank you for your help shoebox
i dunno if im missing any plugs or anything... which ones are necessary for starting the car, and how many are there total going into the column... so i know if im missing any or not, so that i can single out the problem if the car still doesn't start either way

It only takes a couple of minutes, just plug anything coming from the column back in.
From memory, there are these connectors:
2 for the ignition swtich
2 other long ones
1 Passkey
1 air bag (not needed)
1 dimmer switch (not needed)
1 other one with several wires that I cannot remember what it's for.

ok shoebox... i got everything hooked up, and i jump started my battery... which got the internals of the car working, AND my alarm went off... tho it was real quiet as if it were dieing... we charged the battery for a good 3-4 minutes hooked up to another running car, and when i put in the key the dingers that tell ya the door is open and everything came on... so i know its getting juice
i *think* i hooked up everything to the steering column... but the ignition still won't start...
doesn't crank... just won't start
are you sure vats didn't kill the ignition when i removed the stereo?
like i said i checked the fuses and they were all fine... what other reason would keep the car from not starting?
