Help!!...Starting issues

Ok, so I think something is wrong with either my fuel pump or iginition. A friend and I replaced the wires/plugs and added an MSD 6a a couple weeks ago. This was right after I had my Jet hot LT's installed. The car was running fine (accept for the 2 burnt wires that we replaced). About a week ago I replaced the elbow cause mine was ripped up. Now, sometimes the car cranks great but doesn't start. After several tries, I can hear "somethin" that sounds like the pump priming and relays/switches like normal and I know it'll start right up then. (and it does). Then it runs great.

It just doesn't make sense, if the pump were bad, wouldn't it just not start all the time? I just don't wanna go through the hassle of replacing it if it's not the real problem.

I tried disconnecting the MSD (going back to the stock ignition) and that didn't seem to help. (although it did start right up after I changed it, but the problem happened again).

Could I have knocked something loose?? Like wireharness or something??.........Also, what's the part that is mounted on a bracket that attaches to one of the bolts that holds the coil on?? It has vaccum hose attatche to it. (Just curious)

Really just looking for ideas/options at this point. I'm going to go get a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow and test that. But if that is the problem, is it necessarily the pump??.......What else could cause the problem?

Thanks in advance for all your help ..............oh, and sorry so long

make sure your fuel pump relay is clicking on and STAYING on while the engine is cranking. The relay is easy to get to and should be under the panel on the carpet by your left foot. as long as the engine is cranking over, the relay should be energized and feeding power to the fuel pump.

You can also check the fuel pressure up on the fuel rail. This would verify that you are definately getting fuel to the injectors.
