Question Help! Starter engages when I connect the positive cable

I am finishing up my Pacesetter LT install on my 97 TA 6 speed and have everything hooked up. I took off the starter to gain access and now I put it back on.

I disconnected only the positive wire on my battery for the install and left the negative cable on. When I put the positive cable back on the battery, the starter immediately engages and there is no key in the car.

I have no clue why this is happening because there are only 2 wires to hook up on the starter and I'm pretty sure they're correct.

What happened? Does this have something to do with the way the battery cables were disconnected?

make sure the small wire on the starter is not touching the big wire

the small wire on the starter is hitting the posite battery cable end on the starter.
