Help! Ses light after header install
Help! Ses light after header install
hey, guys I just finished my longtube install lastnight now im getting a service engine soon light, here is what it does i start the car let it idle no light drive for a few seconds comes on,but if im at a redlight and idleing it while go off sometimes? does anyone know what this is? could it be my o2's? one of them was white on the top of it, before i put it in the header, could it be the air pump or egr? thanks
AutoZone should be smart enough to know that once the SES light comes on, the trouble code is stored and can be "read", even if the SES light is not on. I suspect they didn't have the correct OBD-I scanner.... they only seem to do OBD-II in many locations.
Did you delete AIR? Is there a good fuse in the AIR system?
Did you delete EGR? OBD-I generally does not set a code, but it is possible.
Did you use "O2 extensions" and how good are they? Almost sounds like the sensor(s) is not staying hot enough.
There are no codes/SES lights in OBD-I related to "plugs" or misfires.

Not always will it come on and stay on. I have a Right O2 lean, and Right O2 fail light all the time. I use Datamaster so I can see it when it happens. If I am on the interstate cruising for a long time the light will come on, but if I vary my speed by about 5 miles either slower or faster it will go off. Then it comes back on till I cruise at that speed for awhile. I dont worry about it really, I just keep replacing it. For some reason a local parts store will warranty iy out for free. They keep taking them, I keep bringing them back.
I also have Jet-Hot Lt's.

no i did not delete air or egr was thinking about it though, im using new extensions with my 02's that came with the headers
I'm also running open headers, also i notice my rpms jump a lil while im driving seems fine while idleing. How can i find out if i got a misfire?

It's also possible that with absolutely no backpressure on the exhaust at all, the EGR flow is so low that even the lame OBD-I diagnostic is picking up a problem. The light will only come on when you are driving, since the EGR is only used under certain low/part load conditions. It isn't used at idle, so the light woudl go out.
Just a guess though.... no substitute for a good code scan.

, if it was the plugs ,wouldn't the light be on constant?
