affordable Z06 C5 brakes for 4th gen

i have been reading alot and with help of other members i thought i would post this. i talked with bob bishop. he makes aluminum brackets to fit C5 fronts onto our 4th gen f-body. he sells them through

http://www.speedspecialty.com/store/...b2ffbadd037e97

at the bottom of the page is another link that shows what gm parts you need to do a complete install. it also gives a supplier with a special price for all the stock parts. i priced it all up at gmpartsdirect.com and the package price beat it buy 50 bucks. i aslo sent an email to verify the price is still accurate and it is. 550 includes the Z06 pads and shipping. 450 is without the pads.

the best argument i've heard to do this versus buying something from baer / willwood / brembo whoever, is that you can go to any local parts store / dealership and get parts (except for the bracket). the Z06 rotor is also wider than the baer. not too bad for 835 shipped. if you dont have 17's then this wont apply to you. hope someone can use the info.

Cool. They need to sell the brakes themselves too. I have to order mine still.

he got the aluminum ones on the website tuesday. the price is now 275 and the shipping weight is just over 6 pounds. if you are at 8 i wouldn't sweat the 2 pound difference.

Ahh, thats not that bad, looks like there is more material on there on the aluminum to compensate for the strength loss over steel. Let me say one thing about Bobs brackets, the tolerances are AMAZING, when you put the bolts he includes in any of the holes, it would hold water the tolerance is so tight. A+++ for his craftsmanship, looks like they are possibly laser cut as well.

C5 brakes

I bought a set of the steel brackets from Bob a couple of years ago, and got the GM stuff through Jason Cromer. Bob had quit making the brackets at that point, I'm glad he has started up again. I added LS1 rear disks when I added the Moser 12 bolt. I love these brakes! You can see some installed pics of the C5 brakes on page 1 of the website in my sig.

The LS1 (98 up) F Bodies got larger brakes (11.8" front/11.9" rear) all around on the Z28/Trans Am. I'm not sure how big the rear LT1 brakes were, and if I had not been installing the 12 bolt, I would probably have left them as is.

Here is the source for this information:

I know they dont mean anything, since less than 30% of the braking is in the rear, but I didnt think there was any difference between LT1 and LS1 in the back.

Cool

is this pretty much a bolt-on or is there any other mods that you have to do? Is there a install guide available? Just wondering. Thanks.

you need to cut part of your spindle off. yes it comes with a complete install guide. bob took the whole thing to a novice car guy and had them install the whole system while he watched. he wanted to make sure the directions were complete enough for everybody. the only mod he had to make was..... telling the installer to put the lock washer on the bolt before setting the bolt in place. he is also available via emails and i think phone calls if you need help.

something else to mention here is that the c5 setup is the same as the z06 setup except for the caliper. the z06 caliper is powder coated red. the rotors and pads are the same. i posted this on ls1 tech and someone put that in a reply.

Cool

Cool, thanks for the reply. I am still debating between the z06 or the LS1 brakes. But anyways thanks again for the help.
