Exclamation Help - Replacing the Radiator

I recently found out my coolant was leaking, so yesterday I tore into the car and found it was the radiator, on the passenger side. It's on the plastic part, with the small fins that connects to the side of the metal part. It's a small crack...but the coolant pours out when the system is pressurized.

Anyways, i tried removing it yesterday, but I can't figure out how to get it off the air condenser (i think it is, it looks like a smaller radiator) in front of it. The chilton's manual doesn't mention anything about it. All the hoses have been disconnected, and the electric fans have been removed. I've already unhooked it from the air condensor on the driverside, and one of the hooks on the passengerside. But on the passengerside there are 2 metal lines, i think they are for the AC, that conntect to the air condensor on the top and bottom. These lines restrict the movement of the radiator. I could disconnect them, but it doesn't look like it would help, as the joint (i guess it would be) is behind the radiator. It looks like I have would have to take the air condensor out, but the manual doesn't say anything about taking it out. And I'm not really sure I know how to get that thing out.

Please help, i'm stuck with the car apart right now..lol. Thanks guys!

Re: Help - Replacing the Radiator

when i took mine out last year i just remember lifting up on it and it came right out, leaving the condensor in place.

in the chiltons manuel, it say on page 3-27 "the radiator assembly is held at the bottom by two cradles secured to the radiator support"

you might be stuck here, hope you can get it out.

Re: Help - Replacing the Radiator

I've also read of other ppl who have had the same problem as me. But they repaired the track with JB Weld. I was thinking about doing that, however how will it hold up with a highly modified motor like mine? I also just purchased a supercharger (D1SC). Will the added stress be a problem for the repaired crack? If anything I could always just replace the radiator when I get the kit installed. I just want to be able to drive the car until then.

There are tabs on the sides of the radiator that have hooks that grab the condenser; you'll need to unhook the 2 to remove the radiator.

Re: Help - Replacing the Radiator

The metal line on the bottom of passenger side of the radiator is kinda held in place by a "clip" type deal.....it goes through a part of the radiotor itself and takes some manuvering to get it out.....I've gotten mine out plenty of times without disconnecting the ac

Re: Help - Replacing the Radiator

i dont think the fact that the motor is modified would have anything to do with the radiator. the radiator just keeps the engine cool. no added pressure or anything from a modified motor. the radiator should just lift up and then pull it toward the motor and out.

That is the line that is holding the radiator on. The other hooks, i think there are 4, that hook the radiator to the condenser are easy to get off. Well, I was able to lift the radiator enough to get 3 of them off the hooks, but that metal line on the bottom keeps getting in the way.

I'll give it a shot again tomorrow.

Re: Help - Replacing the Radiator

Move the drivers side as far toward the engine as possible, then lift it streight up on that side.Ya will have to use a little force streight up on the pass side to clear the pin. That should let you raise the condenser far enough to unhook the air condetioner line, slide to the drivers side a little after raising the passenger side to clear pin and bring it out. Remember your steps to get it out as ya will have to exact reverse it to go back in.
