Help quiet my car down

A month ago, I installed heads, cam, headers, etc. (the mods in the sig.) When I did it, I had them put in a straight pipe in place of the cat. With this setup, it's pretty loud. In fact, I think it's "pull me over" loud right now. I am trying to find a way to quiet it down some.

I like the way it sounds at full throttle, but it's too loud driving around.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Thanks,

BRAD

If the tone of the sound is fine, but the volume is just too much I would go for a high performance cat.

I've been toying with the idea of running a dynatech bullet muffler for an ORP because my 2OTL gets a lil raspy and tinny without the cat. I'm a little worried it will actually make it too quiet though because Fred (injuneer) said he thought his exhaust actually got quiter with Borla straight through muffler/resonators as ORPs.

What? You volunteered to try it out for me before i do it in a couple of weeks? Thanks Brad!

I think I am going to try putting on a cat. At least it would look legal if I get pulled over. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to change out the muffler for something quieter. Hmmm.

Thanks for the replies,

BRAD

well I've been going through the same thing with my true duals. I installed some high flow cats and it made such a small decrease in sound its not even worth mentioning. The high flow ones have even less packing than the stock so its not going to help much. I myself and looking at new mufflers as this is where you will get the biggest decrease in sound. With your setup, the car should be very loud, I know mine is loud but not crazy loud and I didn't see much difference in sound. I would still suggest a cat because from what I hear in California they can charge up to 5000 dollars fine without one, a high flow cat from ebay (soundcat) cost me 50. If you need max power throw on a cutout. It seems to me you'll need a muffler with some good packing, and unfortunetely there is no way of knowing which one will give you your perfect sound without trying several.

I had no cats, no muffler, and slp shorties, which was really loud. I added an 18" bullet muffler and it quieted it down quite a bit.

I ordered one today from Jegs. I'm getting the ORP fabbed and new tires mounted next tuesday. I'll try to make some sound clips and let you guys know how it turns out.

I have thought of doing the bullet in place of the ORP, so your idea sounds like a good one. I'd rather have things a bit on the quiet side. Maybe the bullet plus a cutout. Hmmmm...
