Im pretty sure since the SS is just an option on the Z28 that there is nothing in the VIN that indicates it being an SS. If Im not mistaken, you have to call SLP and give them your VIN and theyll tell you if its real.

That is correct.

FWIW, it's a 97 A4 with 3.23 gears.

Thanks, while I have you madwolf can I take the obd 1 conversion you did for my 97 z and just switch computers with that one. I'm selling the 97 Z. ANYONE LOOKING AT THIS THREAD ION IS THE GUY TO DO UP YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!! Also do you recommend a reprogram going from no cat loudmouth to pacesetter long tubes? If so what do you charge for a update? How is school going?

No need to reprogram for no cat or long tubes. The program you have will work with them just fine. As for the OBDI conversion, I forgot if you had an auto or manual. If you have an auto with 3.23s then yes, it will work fine.
