Help Quick!! Couple of questions before dropping the tranny out of car...
My chiltons manual sucks first of all...Ok, I have the tranny mount and support off, the next thing says "lower the transmission enough to reach the transmission control assembly bolts/screws." *Warning* "the transmission control assembly must be held when lowering the transmission, as it is not secured in the vehicle. If the assembly is not helo, it could drop, causing damage" Then it says "carefully lower the transmission, then remove the control assembly" Next "unfasten the transmission retaining bolts/screws. With the hlep of an assistant, revove the transmission assembly form the flywheel"
Can someone make sense of this for me? What is the so called "control assembly"? At this point I assumed I could just unbolt the tranny and drop it.

ok, you already got off the mount. I assume you already have a jack holdong it up. Disconect all the ladder (whatever its called) bar out which is a kind of pain because the bolts are so long you may have to lower the tranny a little. Take off the flywheel cover and get out the converter bolts (your going to have to put the car in neutral so you can get to all the bolts.) Now lower the jack a little and get those bellhousing bolts out (I have found that a swivel socket and an extra couple hands work real well.) Now at some point your going to have to get the cooler lines out which is another pain in the **** but you can get them. Then before you lower it all the way get those electrical connections off. Now scoot the jack towards the rear of the car and pull the tranny off the converter and lower it. Theres most likely some steps that I left out but thats the majority of it. Its really not hard at all. Have fun
