Help Please...crank pully WILL NOT come off!

Hey guys I need some help here. I'm in the middle, or I guess the beginning of my opti install. For the past hour I have been trying to get my crank pully off and it won't come for anything. I've tried everything I can think of. I tried using a pully puller thingy and it won't budge. I must be doing something wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated I'm about to give up and pay someone to do this

your at the hardest part of the install.. take a breath.. Take the 3 bolts off. soak the area with some pb blaster or something equal and work it off with your hands. it will come.. took me about a half hour to get that damn thing off when I did my opti.. I removed it with my hands and a hammer, LIGHTLY tapping it to budge it a lil. push n pull. it will come....

to get the crank pulley off, leave the crank bolt screwed in, then take off the 3 bolts that hold the crank pulley to the hub. next use a 3 way- gear puller to remove teh pulley. it will come on, don't worry.

takes about 1-2 minutes to take off if you simply use a puller...

Yeah I've got that plus another guide printed off plus a Haynes manual. I soaked it will some PB blaster earlier so I'll let it sit awhile. The puller I used was a 2 toe puller, is it necessary to use a 3 toe one?

I've herd alot of people have problems with the puller as well as doing it by hand... I say use the hand method only because thats what worked for me and I didnt even have a pulley puller.... Good Luck. Let us know how u make out..

96-97 requires an harmonic balancer puller. Makes your life alot easier.

The first time I did this...many years ago LOL i sepnt a week trying to get the pulley off, tried pry bars, hammers, by hand etc, nothing worked, and I would literally try for a couple hours everyday for 5-6 days straight, it wasn't until I spent the 20-25 on the three claw puller that it came off with almost no effort in about 2 minutes, I was pissed, and really excited all at the same time.

I fyou want it off and don't want to struggle go get the gear puller.

Thanks I guess I'll go out and buy a three claw puller tonight and go at it again tomorrow morning. I just tried for another 1/2 hour with a two claw with no luck . Thanks again I'll let you know how it turns out.

Normally the pullies on the late models have bolt holes where you can use a puller like Asiansensation showed. Earlier models can come off this way. The late model pullies have the holes I am talking about at the same place where the claws are in my pic.

You might be able to get it off with a two claw puller if you turn the claws inside out and can get it straight across between the spokes on the inside of the pulley.

that was a good suggestion, with the force applied on the inside you might you have better luck. Something else to try if you get bored before grabbing the 3 claw
