Help please?
I have a 97 z28 with 70,000 miles i just bought the car and dont know much about it. So far i changed oil and fuel filter and just bought a set of NGK plugs and Taylor wires but still need to put them in. what happens is it has a rough idle. it will idle fine as soon as you stop but after 5 seconds the rpms go between 600 and 800 and sometimes taking off under light take off it has a sputter at 1800-2000 rpm's. PLEASE help me. I hope its NOT my opti.

Cap & rotor - Preignition/detonation, stuttering,etc. under load at low rpms
Opti - Engine speed fluctuation at high rpms or a no start condition
It could be your IAC or a sensor near the throttle body that's giving you trouble. I would try taking your throttle body off and cleaning it with some carb cleaner to see if that helps. Pay special attention to the small passages. The opti should be a last resort kind of thing.

You may also want to check if your MAF sensor and air filter are dirty. If the car is stock, I wouldn't advise the NGK non platinum plugs...you'll just be changing them again in 30K miles. The AC Delco stock platinum plugs work fine in a stock engine and won't need to be changed again for 70K+ miles.
