help, no start
help, no start
I just finished installing the 305 cam in my wifes 94 Z and once I got it together it wouldn't start. It'll turn over fine but it won't fire. I've done a few LT1 cam installs and have never ran across this problem. Any ideas on what it could be? I did a compression test on a few cylinders and got around 130, which is ok. I also checked a couple plugs to make sure I was getting spark. There were no starting problems before the install.
What is the fuel pressure and could you have crossed the injector plugs?
Use an oil can and squirt fuel directly in the throttle body with it held open. Then crank it over. If it starts and dies right away, it's a fuel problem. If it doesn't do anything, look at spark timing or valve timing.
Did you replace the distributor? Did you get the right one for the length dowel pin in the cam? I think the 305 uses the longer dowel pin used in 95's and up. Try the gas trick and if it doesn't work, think about the timing. When I installed my distributor, I put the #1 cyl at TDC, took the cap off the distributor and made sure the rotor faced the #1 connector on the cap. You could do the same thing by just removing the cap not the whole distributor.
good luck

I'm sorry, but prior knownledge that a fireball could protrude form the intake may have saved his eyelashes or mustache (if he has one).

Why don't you try to help this guy instead of cracking jokes.
