Help me prove the dealer is full of it!!!

I've been having problems with my 96z. It blows blue smoke under heavy acceleration and at start up. Due to the smoke coming out of the oil filler cap my initial thought was blow by. The dealer ( a s^&%$ used car one ) said that it was a fuel problem. Dont worry I dont believe them! But I do need some sugestions as to what it may be because it looks like I will have to pay for it up front and take legal actions on the dealer to get it all back.
Thanks for the help.

Fuel = black smoke
Oil = Blue smoke
Water = white smoke

I suggest getting a precise diagnosis and estimate before you let anyone touch it. Going after a dealer or mechanic after the fact is almost always a disaster.

Whenever you have a mech work on your car they will not even let you drive it off the premisis until they get their money. JMHO

Is there any specific tests that I should have done or do myself, so that I may have proof that the dealer is shafting me. Their mech obviously has no clue whats wrong with it and I dont want him fixing it but I do want them to pay for it.

I suggest going to a diagnosis outfit rather than a dealer. A compression test might tell you whether your rings are shot or maybe your valve seals are allowing oil to get into the combustion chambers. Could be anything,but is going to require some dianosis by a qualified mechanic.

Anything done by a dealer is going to cost you, and many mechanics will just keep throwing parts at it until resolved.

If its a "used/abused" engine it may need a rebuild. If it is determined that the engine needs a total rebuild, and you bought it from a "used/abused"car dealer, you are probably screwed, but you can always "ask" if they might give you some relief in the form of some refund money.

I heard that there might be some honest dealers out there, but have yet to actully deal with one.

Did you try to check it out yer self? Have GM service manual?

Stop wasting your money... search and seek on your own...you'll feel much better.

BTW....Most Dealers and Mechanics are full-o-**** .... only time the dealer see's me is when I'm on my way to the parts department...

honestly though...there's maybe a handful of truly good mechanics that tell the truth out there...others will just keep raping you and raping you....

I know allot of mechanics BTW....

No body touches my car but me....

Try replacing all your valve seals. Cheap and easy, then you will know if there is bigger problems

Thanks guys! I got a compression test set up for tommorrow. Ive got a bad felling that its going to be a rebuild. Yeah the whole "NOBODY touches my car but ME" motto is now in effect for this guy.

While they are doing the comp test, ask them to do a leak down test. This will pin point exactly when the trouble lies..

Compression test is not going to tell you anything. Even it's low, that doesn't mean the rings are bad and usually a bad compression test is due to bad valves. A smoking problem on a stock bottom end is hardly ever (that is prettly close to never) rings.

A leak down test will tell you if it's rings but if it's not, you won't find bad valve seals with this test.

You have 2 choices if your a betting man. Bad seals or a bad intake gasket. The rest of the choices are long shots. come see me in Hampton and my buddy will tell you EXACTLY what is your problem.

What if the PCV system is not functioning? Won't you build up crankcase pressure in stead of a vacuum? Won't you get the same result?

O yea they are full of s*(# at the dealors. I took my car in a long time ago. It had a high miss, i told them fuel or ignition what do they tell me it is........the EGR......so i laugh....and say okay go ahead--but if it doesn't fix it you are doing whatever needs done for free. so they fix it and tell me it's fine when i pick it up and it still does it.......i swear they don't even test drive them when they are done any jack can feel that miss. So long story short.......i got 2 free plug and wire jobs......they laid one wire on the header the first time so guess what they bought another $90 plug wires from magnacore.......trust me they were glad to get me out of there......i was pissed......2 months of the same problem wich could have been solved if they would have just listened to the owner........but then again i'm not certified i just have common sense O yea and they threw in some free accel wire sleeving.

But anyway i wouldn't let them do it until you know for sure what it is....other wise you'll be doing it agian and again. Does the smoke go away after you drive it a little? Mine smokes a little when she is cold....122,000miles.....but when she warms up and the rings expand seals a little better.
