help me choose mods please!!!

ok guys. getting serious about doing some mods to my 93' z-28. it has a re-built lt1 with only 10k miles on it. should I sell it, buy a already built 383 for 2295.00? this motor (383) has a 5yr warranty. all in all, it would cost me about 3k to do this + 3.73 gears (up from 2.73's) or should i just stick with my motor and do heads, cam, stall, and gears? how much would these different options cost? thanks for the input.

For the heads and cam, it can go from $1100 for the LE1 package all the way up to who knows what depending on how extreme you go. Same with the stall, you can get an el cheapo $250 jobber or a custom built one like a Vig or Yank for the big bucks. For gears, check around some of the site sponsors and see what's what.

I wouldn't bother with a new shortblock if you've only got 10k miles on this one, personally. Heads & cam + whatever else you can do.

Lloyd Elliott level 1 kit. His forum name is Nighttrain66.

His email is nighttrain66@msn.com

Email him and he'll have you give him a call. Great guy, great prices, and great performing #'s.

On an answer to your first question. Does that built 383 come with everything else you'll need? For instance if your staying fuel injected. Does it have intake, heads, cam, injectors, computer, etc. If not your gonna spend some serious cash getting all that stuff together, which will make it much more than your paying initially. I also recommend sticking with your current setup and doing a nice heads and cam package. Get a LE2 package, make 380-400rwhp(or better) and have it be completely streetable, basically you can drive it every day with no worries. Add rear gears and install, PI vigilante or Yank converter and install, couple of other extras like mail order tune, tranny cooler, shift kit, etc. You'll probably end up still having a total cost less than the 383 route and you'll be very very satisfied(atleast til the mod bug gets you again).

Both packages mentioned here (LE1 and LE2) come with ported cylinder heads and a cam ground to match them. No need for the 306.

The LE1 package is about $1100, the LE2 is $1600 I believe. Lloyd Elliott's email address was given above, shoot him an email and talk it over with him, he's very helpful!

My best advice if your thinking of going with one of Lloyd's kits is to email him. Tell him what your looking for and what you plan to do. He'll have you call him and he will be able to give you all the information you need. He knows exactly what combination of parts make good power with his setups and he knows prices as well. To answer your stall question it's all on what the cam spec's are your going with. Will you need, or should you get a stall? Absolutely....what size depends on what you want to do with the car and what other setup of parts you have. Lloyd can help you decide that. Out of all the plans I had for my car, there were about 3-4 things I couldn't make a decision on. Mostly because of lack of knowledge, but also just because making an educated decision to get the most from I wanted was just impossible for me. He helped me out by giving me proven #'s with the parts I was considering and also his recommendations as to what complimenting mods would give me the best I could get with that combination. Right now I'm basically in the process of putting the mods together that are all complimenting the setup of his I plan to get later this year. When I spoke to him it was before he offered cams, now that he does I'm certain I can not only save some money but also get better performance.

If you did go with a CC306(although already mentioned earlier if you get one of Lloyds kits you won't need that cam) yes you'd probably have to get around a 3500 stall to get the most out of it. Although 3000-3200 would probably be alright. Finding a cam that makes it's power a little lower in the rpm range and matching it with say around a 3000rpm stall would probably be much easier for everyday driving, not to mention just ease of driving altogether. I recommend Precision Industries Vigilante or Yank whenenever you decide on a stall speed. Both are pricey but also both are known to basically be the best off the shelf stall you can buy. I have a Vig. 3000rpm stall and absolutey love it. Mine was $500 bucks used but was only about a month old. They go for around $750-900 new. They also include a warranty and one free stall speed change. This is perfect if you decide your setup needs a little more stall you won't have to go buy a new one, just change yours. Yank is very similar in prices.

Sorry so long, I'm long winded.
