Help me, car is missing badly

Another help me thread

Background:

Car had a problem with shaking @ 45 mph once rpms settled/hesitating/very low power.

Drove like that for 6 months till mechanic fixed it. Was the distributor/cap/rotor. Power restored, Hesitation gone. Only problem was rpms were jumpy(from 500rpms to 1000rpms) which never happened before.

Drove like that for 7 days and then the tranny went out. Car only drove in reverse. Brought it back to mechanic and they fixed the tranny issue. It was a cable that needed to be fixed.

Now i have the car back. It has lost alot of low end torque again. High end power seems alright except for the bad miss. Say i'm going 50 mph and i accelerate. What happens is the car hesitates and starts shaking and does not accelerate. RPM's dont go up, i just get a shaking feel. I have to step on the gas harder to get it to pass that hessitating state to where it accelerates. Car still had the jumpy rpm issue till today when i seafoamed it. Now the idle is much smoother, not perfect but much better.

What do you think this could be? When i picked the car up a couple weeks ago, the car was making a horrible rattling sound. Mechanic told me it was the catalytic converter. I'm never going back there again so i went to my buddy who told me that it could be a bad cat but i havent had a chance to get it to him to take a look @ it and i wont for a couple of weeks.

What do you guys think? Why would it lose a little bit of power after they fix the tranny? What do these symptoms sound like? Could somethign be lose in the exhaust or cat somewhere?

Have you had it scanned for codes? The cat could be clogged causing issues. Read old posts and you will find a lot of info about this. My mechanic checked my in 10 minutes and didn't charge me for it.

If you drove it with a misfire for any amount of time you may have melted the ceramic 'brick' inside the cat. Unbolt the rear half of the exhaust system (flange after the cat) and have a look inside. If you need to, take a long stick and carefully try to 'move' the ceramic brick in there. It should look like a bunch of tiny square tubes. If it's moving around or partially melted, you found maybe one of the problems.
