Smile Help me build up my LT1....

Well, I'm at the point where the car just isnt good/fast enough, lol.

Here are my goals:
The car needs to be a daily driver, therefore gas mileage is important.
The car will be used at the track on most weekends, naturally.
The car will be on the bottle with a minimum shot of 100, max of 150 (NX wet).
I'd like something with AT LEAST 400 rwhp off the bottle, and more would be better.....
And, a 12 bolt would be in the future....
And, there is a slight chance that I would hit the car with 6 - 10 psi (supercharger) down the road
Oh, and a walboro 255 lph pump is going in this summer along with a digital window switch

So, the reason I ask here is because I'm in the exploratory stage and since I'm pretty new to building up LT1s, I seek your help as you guys know more...

I guess we can start with displacement. I've read that alot of people get great success from a 355, even a 383. Should I keep the stock stroke or move to a 355 or 383??

As for pistons, might as well change those since the motor will most likely be out. I would probably need something like JE flot top pistons that can handle juice, maybe even a small amout of PSI. What do you guys recommend for pistons??

Rods??

Bearing?

Crank? probably scat

Heads?? Not sure what I should be doing with heads. I like the AFRs as they are flow proven etc etc (or any other aftermarket head for that matter).... could get mine ported I suppose. What do you guys rec?

Cam? well, with sooo many choices out there I dont even know what to consider anymore, lol. Suggestions?

And, probably need a new TB.....not to tuff to choose one of those.

Anything else that you guys suggest????

And, Like I said before, I'm in the research stage looking for something to meet my goals. Low 12s, even high 11s would be sweet off the bottle.

I all ready have a spec Stage 3 clutch to match my T56 tranny. And for sure I would be needed a rear at some point as I'm rolling around on 315 nittos.

And finally, I appoligize for the mass amounts of questions. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to engine work on an Lt1...so don't flame me too bad, lol

MODS THAT I HAVE NOW:
Hooker Long Tubes
CAI
NX wet kit
Spec stage 3
Custom 3" catback
Nittos on the rear

a good heads cam package will get you 400rwhp and mid-high 11s. so do you want to run a bottle or a blower? you need to make that choice first.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. You have several contradictory statements: If gas mileage is improtant you don't need to do anything major because anything you do will effect gas mileage. You either need to build with NA in mind or forced induction in mind. With NA you want high compression, a lot of overlap between valves, more even lift on the exhaust and intake, and flat top pistons. In FI you want low compression, less over lap, more lift on the exhaust side than the intake side, and dished pistons. There is alot more to it than what i listed but you need to determine which route you are going before you buy anything.

I would never put a blower on a daily driver...to many head aches IMO...plus damn their expensive...I would stick to the N20...

Sounds like I will stick NA then. And, since I all ready have the juice I might as well stick with it.

Re: Help me build up my LT1....

Good question. Id like to keep things as reasonable as possible. I'd like to spend around $5000 Canadian give a little if needed.

Oh and as for gas mileage, what I meant to say is I dont want a 15 highway MPG pig.

Re: Help me build up my LT1....

it would be easy to spend that on a shortblock alone.

Re: Help me build up my LT1....

Some forged flat top pistons, h-beam rods, new bearings and rings, a LE2 or LE3 head cam package, 1.6 non-self alighning comp pro mag rr's, hardened pushrods, guide plates, comp r lifters, ported intake, 36 lb injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, walbro 255lph fuel pump, cloyes double roller timing kit, electric wp, 58mm TB, long tube headers, good catback or true duals, and a good dyno tune. And of course a good shot of the spray. That should get you where you want to be.
