I assume you have combed over the entire EVAP system looking for broken/cracked lines or hoses off. Can you tell if the smell is from the front or rear?

There is a vacuum valve near the canister that can cause gas odors if it is not working properly. The valve can be tested by applying 15" of vaccum to the control tube (on top) and observing for 10 seconds. It should not bleed down to less than 5" of vacuum during that time.

Well i dont know what all is involved in the EVAP system, and i cant tell where it is coming from. It usually happens and is worse when i turn the heater on, and i come to a stop light, and once i take off the smell stops.

What would need to check the can?

If the blower is bringing fumes in, it could be coming from under the hood. Item 2 is the line that goes back to the canister in the rear of the car. Look over every hose and connection in the system.

Yea when it happens its about 90% of the time when i turn the heater on. so i think it would come from under the hood, but do you know of anything that usually goes wrong thats common? Cause it could cost a little to just start replacing stuff, hehe.

That is why you observe, remove and test stuff before replacing anything. Check the integrity of the vacuum lines going to the EVAP solenoid to be sure they are not cracked/leaking.

Hi there,
I had this problem, too, but it were my fuel injectors.
I opened the throttle body, and there was a horrible gas odour.
Changed to 24# Accel's, now it's perfect!

Where is that tub at exactly? and do i have to drop the tank to get to it?

Also i checked all under the hood and i cant see anything wrong, except for the 2 fuel lines that go into the engine, there is a rubber boot that slips over what looks like a valve, the boot didnt fit very tight and it kinda felt like it was old, could that be a possibility, if so where do i find such an odd part?

There is a vent valve attached to the left rear brake hose bracket.

The part under the hood is going to need a better description so someone can tell what you mean. Lots of pics and diagrams on my Tech Page.

I read some of the things on your tech page, and it looks like a dust cover, but the fuel lines that come from the back of the car, that have the yellow caution tag on them, they are on the right side coming in from the fender, follow them until the go into the engine. There is a rubber boot, but i dont know if that is what it was, im going to check that vent out today, and see, i think the purge solenoid is bad, cause when i was throwing codes before i got my OBDI there was something about a purge solenoid, could that not be working properly and make it smell?

Yes, there are some boots that protect the fuel fittings from dirt.
