Help I need to go home and i got no amps!!!

yea so i leave from my home in south ft lauderdale to head to gainesville for school. neways a little into the journey i stop for gas and when it start back up again the battery starts dieing and it wont start. i then realize its bec of relay H i just put back in after i took out bec it was draining my battery. so i take out the relay and have a nice caprice owner jump my car. I get back on the turnpike and after 40 miles my lights start dimming. i then look down at my amps and there down below 8. the car dies and i had to tow it back to my house. i have missed two days of class so far and 2 days of training at my new job. these fbodies sure r ruining my life. does ne one have ne ideas or suggestions. all the wires to altenator are connected good and its pretty new. i also have an UD pulley from march but i thought it cooked it that fast w/ no sign. the car has always had an electrical problem, bec the windows go up and down with no power at all to the car, and the battery is always draining as the car always takes a bit to start.. please help if u can asap.

Sounds like your battery is shot.

I'd say the alternator isn't charging properly. The car will run on a charged battery for longer than you would think. It's either the alternator or battery, no need to get worried.

You can have a parts store load test the battery and take it from there.

so u guys dont think its an electrical short then? rather the altenator? the battery is brand new, so it must be something other than that. it could be dead bec its getting no charge from altenator. the question how ever is what is causing that? whats a load test btw? and where can i go to get one done???

1st check your alternator and make sure it's charging the battery. Do you have a red battery light at the dash going on? If it does then your alternator is shot or has loose connection. If you jump start it then it dies after few minutes then it's your alternator not charging.

2nd check and make sure no other accessory is wired dirct, bypassing the ignition switch, and it is draining your battery while car is off.

The only light that came on when my alternator went out was the 'Check Gauges' light.
