Help, High pitch noise

Lets see if anyone has seen this one. I am in the process of rebuilding my brother in laws 94 Z tranny and rear and he wrecked it into a ditch right before bringing the car to me. The damage wasnt bad, but now if you try to accelerate too quickly it makes a high pitch "squeal" for lack of a better term. It sounds as if it is coming from the passenger rear side of the engine. The engine also looses power while squeeling. If he accelerates very slowly, there isnt much power loss. I pulled that valve cover and everything appears ok.

The two things that pop to mind would be if he tweaked the axle, you could have gears or bearings whining.....or maybe something simple like a slipping belt or idler/tensioner pulley going out?

6 speed or auto?
and does it still Squeal when accelerating slowly?

if the cars a 6 speed it could be a slipping clutch
if auto all i can think of is accesorie belt slippage

Re: Help, High pitch noise

this may be way off base but i have a friend that rebuild a TH350 and put it in his 94 ta and it whistles. sounds like it is coming from the passenger rear side of the motor but it is the tranny vent tube. it only does it while it is cold. the tranny shop said that it will not affect the perforamce of the car.

Re: Help, High pitch noise

I will try to clarify some. I have actually pulled off the accesory belt, and this problem happens not only when driving but also when in park. If I smoothly open the throttle body it seems to increase rpm's nicely. But if I give it a quick burst it make that screaming/whine. From both under and above the car the noise is coming from the passenger rear side of the engine. I just keep thinking it has to be valve train, or bearings but how would that happen from such a minor accident? By the way it idles perfectly......

Oh well, tearing the motor apart now. I will post if I find the problem. Thanks to everyone who replied.
