Help! Had car towed today!

I had a vibration that seemed to come in around 3k rpm. Also..when slowing down or downshifting (clutch in) I heard a ....not sure if I want to call it a grinding noise...more like a metal rubbing noise. If I would let the clutch pedal out it would leave. Today I got on it a little in 2nd gear and went to shift to 3rd and would not come out of gear. After I forced it out of gear it would not enter any gears (did not grind however). I can cut the car off and put it in gear....and if I crank it up with the clutch fully depressed the car moves forward slowly. Lemme know what you guys think.

Thanx
Joe

Same thing happened to me Monday after a clutch install job. I think the clutch fork retracted and jammed against the bellhousing, now it wont reach the throwout bearing to disengage the clutch from the flywheel, therefore locking the motor and tranny together. Car runs fine in neutral and wont go into gear, but if I start it in any gear with the clutch pedal to the floor (which is difficult to press), it bumps over then stalls.

My problem is a little different Dave. I can start the car with pedal depressed and it doesn't jerk or anything just slowly pulls forward after cranking....IOW....it doesn't act like you tried to jump it off by pushing the car and dumping the clutch like you would with a dead battery. It also doesn't seem to bog the motor when pulling forward.

Thanx

Sounds like a clutch problem. It is not fully disengaging.

Hope not...it's a Centerforce. What does that make me....the 5 thousandth person to have one fail?

your clutch sounds like toast. Get under there and pull it out for inspection. When I smoked my clutch it was permanently in first gear and the pedal was next to nothing for pressure.

I realize yours is different, whereas yours creeps and mine is locked. Just different stages of the same problem - the clutch wont clear the PP/flywheel 100%. Had to have my car towed also - thank God for AAA. First time I've used it since I began my membership. Best of luck to you. Hope you get things worked out.

Talking

I know what you mean Dave. I have towing through Cingular Wireless and this is the first time to use it! I don't get mad anymore when stuff breaks.....I just go fishing.
