HELP on emmisions (2nd time failing)
Ok now this is the 2nd time i have failed emmisions. the first time the car was 170 degrees and with a tune and failed the HC (hydrocarbons) with a level of 2.31 (u need a .80 or lower to pass)...so this time i changed the fuel filter, put brand new 02 sensors in and checked everything..it is tip top...i ran the stock tune and today brought it in..the car was at 220 degrees (real hot) when they tested it..and quess what? HC score of 2.64..i dont know what to do?? HELP??

I thought Hydrocarbons were measured in parts per million? I would go to Wal-mart, but some Denatured Alcohol (next to the laquer thinner) run it through a full take of gas, then go through emmissions. This should clean your engine pretty good. Also sea foam your engine.

so i have a bottle/can of the seafoam stuff...should i pour the ENTIRE can in (16fl oz/1 pint) now with a full tank of gas and run it out. or should i pour it in when i plan on going to test next?
when i go to test should i pour 1 gallon of denatured alcohol in and 6 gallons of 93 octane fuel on top of that then go? as well as run the engine at 220?

I don't know what to tell you. I passed emmissions no problem with a HOTcam, ported heads with bigger valves, bolt ons, a Random Tech high flow cat and a PCMforless tune. We were allowed up to 220 ppm hydrocarbons, and the car only put out 120. Try the alcohol thing that has been suggested, and from what I've heard the hotter your car is running during the test the better for emmissions (although in my experience it really hasn't mattered much).

Hotter the better is correct. As for the alcohol I'm not sure the mixture. I'd say 10 gallons to 1 and run the tank empty. The sea foam DO NOT pour in your gas tank. Suck it into your intake with the brake booster line. Use about a half bottle. Turn it off and let it sit for a half hour. Start it up and run the hell out of it to break the carbon loose. Repeat this untill you don't get anymore smoke from the exhaust.

whats wrong with putting a can in the gas tank? plus i just put in new 02 sensors last week..do u think the carbon deposits from using the seafoam in the intake will foul these brand new 02's...? ive heard nothing but good stories about putting it in the gas tank.

The Denatured alcohol works better than the Sea Foam. That Guaranteed to Pass Emmissions cleaner you buy for $6 a bottle is denatured alcohol. It works better than sea foam IMO. I've used Guaranteed to Pass Emmissions and Sea Foam on 5 different cars of mine. I would reccomend changing the fuel filter after you use it though. It can break stuff lose from the gas tank and dirty up your filter. I would use sea foam in your oil about 200 miles before your change your oil as well. Sea Foam in the intake is the most effective. It is O2 safe, says so right on the can. Has never hurt any of the 4 FI cars i used it on. It only increased MPG, buy 6mpg on the Turbo 3000gt i had in combination with the denatured alcohol.

so u think run the tank almost empty...then pour in 1 gallon of denatured alcohol and then fill the rest of the tank with 7 gallons on 93 ocatane gas...then take it directly to be tested?
also the seafoam IS O2 SAFE but the carbon deposits that it breaks up are what ARENT safe and foul your plugs

A hole in the exhaust will only make a difference before the cat. The extra 02 will help it burn better. After the cat, it might help dilute it and throw off the reading, but i dunno. With the cutout open or holes, it will probably fail the visual inspection.
Yeah the carbon deposits can be bad I suppose. I've just never had any problems. You dont have to run the tank to empty. If you have gas in it now, just dump a gallon in it now lol. The mixture doesnt have to be exact. If it runs kinda ruff, just add more gas. A pint is good for 20 gallons so a gallon should cover a full tank.

there is no visual inspection and the cutout is right b4 the cat...i am only failing on the HC test (unburt fuel)

LMAO a gallon is probably too much if a pint is good for 20 your tanks only 15.5, just put a bit in, crack your cut-out a bit and give it a go.also have you done a tune-up in the past 10 years?
