help, crazy idle and valve train noise

1994 camaro lt1, has lt4 hot cam, cold air intake, 58mm tb, 3000 stahl converter. Just rebuilt motor due to low oil pressure. Now have noticed while driving down the road can hear rockers tapping around 2000 rpms. Have adjusted them at half turn and at 3/4 turn running and not. Did notice that with engine not running I can actually push down on a few of the rockers. And the idling issue when you come to a stop light it will go down to 500 rpms and then go to 1200 and back to 500 and so forth. Did notice that if you put in nuetral it will clear up. Cleaned throttle body and iac. Has new opti wires and plugs. Please help

yeah an exhaust leak can cause a similar sound, and for the idling issue you could have a vacuum leak, check the intake elbow on the bottom where it connects to the throttle body, that is a common place

All I did was replaced bearings and rings and had the crank ground. It carries 60 pounds of oil pressure hot at 1500 rpms now. The hot cam kit was installed before I got the car. I did Install a new timing chain and gears. The car did have this idling problem before I removed the engine and I figured it was the opti because it would die at times before. It doesnt die now though. Also noticed at times it will smoke black pretty bad. The noise is definitely from the rockers I have about 12 burns on my hands making sure there were no exhaust leaks. I sprayed the intake and all of the hoses with ether and the engine had no affect like it had a vaccum leak.
