Help! Clutch? Engine?

Hey guys... I recently purchased my 96 lt1 m6. I've got a problem. I think it may be the clutch... but it only has 67000 miles on the car.. but when I'm in fourth, fifth, and sometimes third gear, I put it to the floor and the tach jumps 2grand and it feels like the car is just reving out of gear... I mean it seems to still accelerate somewhat.. but hardly anywhere near where it should be. Does this sound like the clutch???

Also... I've already installed my SLP Loudmouth... Now I'm looking to longtubes, and was wondering.. If i go w/ lt headers, do I have to replace the Y-pipe? I've heard people on here say that it hardly makes a difference, and I've heard others say its a must.

Finally, After the exhaust is done, where is best to go first? I'm looking at CAI, 160* Thermo, and seeking other ideas... I want to get the most HP while spending as little money as possible (without sounding cheap...) I think if I correct the problem I'm having with the clutch (assuming thats what it is) that will help my pick up tremendously. Thanks for your help everyone!

PS --- What are "free mods" that I see people posting about so often???
Thanks for helping a newbie!

I would do your clutch first since it sounds like its slipping...that won't be cheap.

Re: Help! Clutch? Engine?

here is a clutch test...Going around 30-40 put the car in 6th. PUNCH IT...If the motor starts reving and your not going anywhere its def the clutch. You could even find a steep hill and put the car say into 3rd and try to go up the hill.

Roughly how much does a new clutch cost also... I need to figure out how much to set aside if that's the problem....
