HELP!! Car won't start!
HELP!! Car won't start!
When I turn the key it just makes a whining spinng noise. It doesn't turn over, but it just maakes a zzzmmmm noise. Usually when it did this I would hold the gas about half way and it would then start. Do you think its my fuel pump? I really need to get my car home for the weekend. HELP! It's a 94 z28
If your battery is "good" enough to power your starter, but your starter is not engaging, then your bendix is probably shot. You might tap on your starter motor to see if that provides a temporaty fix.
Its usually a battery problem, but may very well be your starter.
If you are an M-6, just push start it. If you are an A-4, make sure your battery is good, and I don't just mean good enough to run your headlights.
If your battery and connections are all good and your starter just spins without connecting to the flywheel, then you better get to autozone and pick up a rebuilt and get your hands dirty. By all means pay attention to what you are doing i.e, use ramps, block tires, disconnect battery, etc. JMHO

sounds like you've had this happen before. Holding the pedal down does nothing for starting, but if it makes you feel better..ok.
If you have headers you might be getting some starter heat soak or you just need a new starter like the previous post said. Tap on it with a hammer, if it starts then, go buy a starter.
