Help! Car won't crank at all

Just got off of work and went to start my car but... nothing. No cranking, no sounds what so ever. All accessories go on but when I go to start, it's as if I'm turning the ignition with out pressing in the clutch. I know it's not a battery issue, so what do you guys think? When I tried to jump start it, the car started for like a second then died. Also the security light keeps flashing but I don't remember if thats normal during the ignition start position.
Any ideas? I really don't want to have to tow it to get it fixed.

Thanks

Re: Help! Car won't crank at all

well this happend to me not to long ago unfortunatly you have a bad ignition lock cylander ( at least i think thats what its called) the security light is supposed to go off you need to either take it to a dealer and have a new one put in and get new keys with it ($400) or get a custome tune and have the vats removed
when this happend to me i tried push starting and everything and it would turnover and then die cause it thinks your trying to steal your own car but also try diconecting the battery for about 20 mins so the comp can reset that might fixitt but good luck

Thanks for the reply! I'll try the battery disconnect and see if that works. $400 for a new lock cylinder? OUCH! Now I'm really hoping the car will start.

well im glad i could be of some assistance but if it wont start i would seriously checkout pcm for less and see if the VATS delete will fix this for you and ifso that will be much cheaper plus you get a tune which will add some power so its a win win situation but best of luck to ya

The Lock cylinder replacement isnt that much, roughly $150 for the parts (cylinder and two keys) and $30 for the two tools to take the steering wheel and the retainer spring off( I bought mine at advance). And if you dont already have one buy a Haynes manual, step by step took me about an hour to do it! Good Luck!

Re: Help! Car won't crank at all

Right on! A friend of mine hooked me up with a lock cylinder kit for $120 and $70 for labor. I was dreading the thought of doing the work in the hot, tight parking space of my work place. Also got the free towing service, thank god for road side assistance. I guess that stuff isn't a total waste of money after all.
Thanks for the help.
