HELP!! Car overheating and SES light on!......long sorry.
I took the car into the dealer the other day and the SES light was on and said that the EGR was bad. Also there was a rotten eag smell the whole time. Well they replaced that and it pretty much got rid of that smell. Well I was out driving today and the smell cam back and the SES light came back on. Just took it to the dealer and said that the EGR was bad again, also the right side was running rich, the temp on the car was over 220*, and there was a missfire on 2 and 7! I think I have a more serious problem then a bad EGR. When I first took it in I said I thought it was the cats, but they said that it was probably the EGR making that smell. Also when I took it back in the guy said that the the problem with my missfire was probably bcuz of the insulator for the plug wire was laying on the AIR tube and said that could cause the missfire. I told him that I have had the car for over 2yrs, but have never had a problem with the wires, but he seemed set that was the problem. Also unless it is all related to the EGR, my extended warrenty ran out today, that they wouldnt cover it. I left it there for them to diaganose to see what they could come up with and also bcuz of the high temp.
One more thing, when I tryed to start the car up again, with the high temp, the car didnt want to start, let alone turn over, and when it did it seemed a really weak idle.
My question is what do you guys think it is? I think the wp went bad and the cats are clogged, but that is my guess.
Thanks
Jeremy

It was over 220*, it was just short of the RED section on the temp gauge. For what its worth, the fans where still running after the car was turned off and keys out of the ignition, and I dont have any kind of fan mod.

That rotten egg smell is definatley the cats in my opinion. maybe the reason its hard to start is that they are clogged up, and if they are clogged it will flip out your O2 sensors after the cats, thus causing your SES light. Ever change your thermostat?? Try going with a 160, maybe that will cure the overheat. But like shoebox said 220 isn't hot really. I don't think that plug would missfire by lying on the air tube. If so I think you need new wires. just my 2cents worth. Hope you solve your problem

The t-stat is 160*, sorry didnt mention that. I never had a problem with this car until the SES light came on the first time and then changed the EGR. I found out, from my dad, that now the 3 and 7 are missing and that the EGR isnt throwing the SES light, thought it was must have been wrong. Anyone have an idea of why the temp was past 220* and still going up? Would the missfire on 2 cylinders cause the temp to rise like that and wouldnt the missfire cause the engine to run rich?
