This might seem like a stupid question but do you have the transmission in neutral ?????

how are you trying to turn it, by hand? it takes about 60lbs/ft to turn your standard small block by hand...so either you need to get a breaker bar on it and try that, or something is hung up inside the motor.

Is the starter on? Is it locked up? Something locking the flexplate/flywheel?

problems

ok, the starter is off, when you mean use a cheater pipe are you refering to puttining it on the center bolt on hub??

when i try to turn this bolt it just keeps tighting it.

the shifter is not hooked up, the car rolls so i dont know.
(no its not a stupid question because im lost now and anything will help).

the flywheel and tq converter will not move as well.

Make sure it is in neutral or park and be careful about putting too much torque on that balancer bolt. Be warned. They can snap or you can strip the crank threads.

I hope you are sure that you got the timing gears lined up properly. Try turning the engine backwards to see if you get any movement. You will not be able to use the crank bolt. You will have to try to wrestle the pulley or pry at the flywheel. There also is a tool you can get that will let you use the flywheel teeth to turn it. It has a long arm and will give plenty of leverage. There also is a tool that bolts on the front of the balancer in the 3 bolt holes that will let you spin the motor.

Yes, aligning the dots on the gears.

All I am saying about the balancer is, that if the motor seems locked up and you put a big honkin' cheater bar on there to turn the crank bolt, you are asking for big trouble. I am even curious now if the crank bolt is not stripped. Try turning it by other means, but don't use the starter if it is locked up. You will break the starter housing.

I don't know if your engine is of stock variety, but was it spun with the pan on it, before it was put in the car? Any chance of pan clearance problems?

Really, I think trying to spin it backward might tell you something, if it actually will go backwards.

yes it spun with pan on, the bolts not stripped

yet, that was why i was afraid to put cheater pipe on it.
