Help With Cam Swap Please?

Okay I got one for you...

Getting my 93 upgraded from nonvented Opti to vented Opti. When trying to put in the new pin/shaft/whatever it's called to my original camshaft, a hairline crack occured...

My mechanic(a great one at that) ordered a camshaft from a 96 LT1, says it's a little bit beefier than my 93, so he's putting it in for me.

I did some homework, this is the differences, tell me what you think...

Part # 10224241
93 factory, duration@0.050 in/ex lift in/ex centerline

208/221 -.474.474 - 112

Part # 12551705
96 factory, duration@0.050 in/ex lift in/ex centerline

201/208 -.447/.459 - 112

I have the stock chip, only a K&N FIPK...JBA'S, Flowmaster 80 exh

What's going to happen to my car??? Is it going to be okay? Is it going to be better? Worse? insignificant? Will it idle okay?

Give me your thoughts?

Thanks!

why waste money on that cam dude.. seriously.. get a 305 or hotcam.. it will idle the same.. and if those numbers are right.. and they don't look right the 93 is definately bigger than that 96 cam..

i dunno where in the hell he got the 93 numbers but they're not right that looks like a zz3 cam with the wrong lift numbers. and i'm pretty sure the 96 cam is 205/208 @ .050" like somebody said before just get another cam, but with the 93 you'll need tuning. and hell if your hairline crack was in the pin just buy a new one it'll be cheaper than dirt next to a whole new cam... and with most gm cams being the same if i was you i'd get a hotcam or a zz3 or something bigger. its just one of those times i'd say do it because its convenient.

Not right???

Hmmm...

I got the information from this website address:

The reason why I am not getting a high perf cam is because the cam is being replaced for free. I just want it back to factory specs for right now...The block has over 166K original miles, don't want to abuse it, now that she's nearing the end of her life, haha!

The hairline crack was at the end of the camshaft.

When I get the motor rebuilt, then I'll sit down & figure out what I want.

Look on this page for cam comparisons. Not all the numbers are there for 1993, though.
