Help

I am planning on doing head/cam and forged internals for spray. Right now i only have money for one or the other. With 95k miles on the motor which do you think i should do first? Thanks, Jason.

Re: Help

do the forged internals...but do it with a cam
you can use nitrous on this all day

i say do it with a cam because later on you can get yourself new heads and a good valvetrain

its not an easy question cuz if you want it done right
you really need to do it all at once

you will have to pull the block twice if you in the money pit

wait and save

Re: Help

I would say heads and cam first, and keep the n2o usage conservative for now, like ~100-125 shot. Make sure your fuel system is up to par so you don't run into a lean condition on the bottle, and dont rev it too high and it should be good to go for many miles to come, assuming that its in good condition right now that is...

Re: Help

BTW I was not blindly giving my opinion above, I ran a stock long block (well, stock except for a hotcam kit) for over 100k, spraying since it was almost new. I just removed it recently to upgrade the heads and cam, and to freshen the bottom end with new bearings, rings, etc. The only abnormal wear I found was the #2 main bearing was a bit chewed up, but it looks to be from oil starvation, not a result of the n2o, as the rest of the bearings were normal. My point is that the stock bottom end can take a decent hit of n2o, as long as you have the n2o set up right (i.e. plenty of fuel pressure on the bottle) and the bottom end is in decent shape.

Re: Help

i would also say that you should go H/C first and keep conservative on the juice. DEFINITELY make sure your fuel system is up to par. a friend of mine took a 350 TPI out of late 80's camaro (essentially the same lower end) and put a carb and intake on it with a nitrous grind cam and sprayed the sh*t out of her for 2 years at the track and a little on the street, then he decided to go with a 383....... by the way, your name is funny if i intrepret it correctly, do you mean JDM as in "japanese domestic manufactures" like the rice boys always talk about? because if so, thats awesome. my friend looked at me the other day at the auto parts store after spotting the infamous "type R" sticker and asked if he could put a JDM front clip conversion on my bravada...good times, good times.
