Help with 396 lt1 build.
Help with 396 lt1 build.
First time posting here. I have learned quite a bit on this site and want to thank each and everyone here for that.
I am building a 396 lt1 for a 93 camaro with trick flow heads that are on the way to lloyd elliot to be ported. Its going to be a solid roller setup with lt4 intake. I have no idea what cam to run with this setup and i trust you guys to help me more than anyone else. This car is gonna be more toward a bracket car than anything but will see some street use but will be very limited. What cam would you recommend to make the most power but still be some what streetable that will work with speed density. Will the stock oil pump drive work if i change to a bronze gear? It just looks brittle to me.
The trans in this car is a built 700r4 with 3500 vigilante stall with 373 gears.
After the motor is done my plan is to get both the trans and rear upgraded.
With a proper built and tuned 396 what kind of 1/4 times should i be looking at with my current gear and trans at 3500 lbs.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Help with 396 lt1 build.
call comp cams or fill out there form on there website, get that conveter restalled or get a new one around 4500. depending on what the heads flow when done you could get a 10.5 n/a imho i'd say low 11's with the 3500 stall
half fill the block with hardblock, dont order the "balenced" assembly have a local shop do it, get a canton pan, 48lb injectors, long tubes with dual dump before the rear, pro stars and et drags, dyno tune no mail order

Mid 10's on motor if its built right and is mostly a trailer queen. Lighten it up and go 9's.
If ya are going mech roller get Crower or Isky pressure oiled rollers and nothing else.
Depending on your head flow a cam with 250/260ish @50 on a 108+4 depending on valve size something in the .700 lift range will work good shifting @7000 with the factory re flashed computer.
Biggest thing is to max port the heads(325+CFM) and get an intake to match,Super Victor, Stealth Ram,sheet metal. Ya need lot's of air for those inches to make HP.
Ya can get a cam that will work with the stock factory oil pump drive gear. With the clearances ya need a good oil pump to keep up with it- 70psi at 7000 so don't just buy a "stock" pump. More Performance makes a "safety" for the drive that fits over the top of the drive like a cap,so if the plastic breaks it won't shoot out and leave ya with no oil pressure.
Depending on tire size ya need a LOT more gear than that. 471 to a 488 with 29 talls would be about right.Trans brake will help too and more converter.
This is for racing not pussying around the street. Ya did say bracket car, right.
