Help with 383 shortblock search

I contacted Chad at Golen by email and he responded quickly. I've been looking at Golen's website in regards to their street/strip shortblock:http://www.golenengineservice.com/ht...rt_blocks.html They look like a good place to start, mostly good feedback, good price, no core charge, etc.

Also, on ebay, I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LT1-3...QQcmdZViewItem

I'm very sketchy about buying from Ebay shops... Then again, I've never bought from an Ebay Shop . What do you think of that block setup? Are those decent quality parts? Anyone ever hear of that company (dynoflo) in Las Vegas?

Doing a search, I saw awesome GP prices from AP Engineering a year ago but it looks like they're closed. Are there any other companies with good prices that I should look at?

I have the parts in my sig (LE ported lt4 TF's and an LE2 cam) and I figured I might as well bore and stroke my bottom end to be safe. But I'm playing the dollar game now and still trying to find quality

Re: Help with 383 shortblock search

I feel that I'll end up with the Golen block. If there are any objections folks, let me know. It looks like I just missed that VRE gp, I'll contact them to see if they could squeeze me in for a good price.

Nate, what's up man?! How are you liking the new tranny? Yup, I'm gonna do this 383 route, I really like the price all the a few bucks less would be a lil better. I can't wait to get it back on the road, it's been a long and slow process. I plan to hit as many gatherings as possible so I'll let ya know when it's done so I can join you guys.

Re: Help with 383 shortblock search

Hi Josh did you get the block yet? Which version of the 383? I'd be in the econo block range myself. I just pm'ed Eric to see how much it would be shipped, right now, the delivered price from Golen is right at the price of the VRE 383 before shipping. My final decision will likely be depending on total cost and delivery between both.

BTW Josh, do you still want those lt1 heads, I just pulled them last night finally Sorry it took so long. Last night was the first in which I was able to go full steam at the teardown. All that's required now is pulling the block from the car. I may sell the longblock as a whole if you don't want the heads, or part the motor out, either way, you can have first dibs.

Is there much difference in the quality of the Golen Street/Strip 383 and VRE Econo 383 internals? I'm not looking to ever spray.

I went with the racer version, with 4 bolt mains. I was gonna go the econo route, but then it was only a couple hundred more for a forged crank. Then after adding up the whole build, I figured Id spend a little more for the 4 bolt splayed caps. Better safe then sorry.

Im spending much more than I had ever thought on this project as a whole. I decided to get nothing but the best. Every frickin part will be the best I could possibly afford.

I did pick up another set of heads. Lloyd had a 6 week waiting list, and I found another guy who could ship them out the next day, so I jumped on them. I needed mine there ASAP. So you can just sell it as a long block, or part it out or whatever you want.

It sounds like the econo shortblcok will work well for you. Im sure it would have been fine for me, even spraying 200, but I dont ever want to have to build another engine for this car. I wanted to eleminate every weak point, even if I never reached the limits of the econo parts, it was upgraded
