Hello from Phoenix Arizona

I just bought a 1997 Camaro Z28 6speed with a comp cams cc503 camshaft, comp cams rockers, and Pacesetter long tube headers with electronic cutouts. I'm not sure if it has been tuned or not. I have been around Chevy's all my life especially the old 350s and 327s. I fell in love with my camaro but I'm worried I bit off more than I can chew due to my inexperience. I'm having issues with the exhaust pumping out smoke when it's warmed up. I pulled the hose from the valve cover to the throttle body and I notice it's doused in oil. The smoke that comes out is white with a tinge of blue. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and nice to meet you all.

Re: Hello from Phoenix Arizona

Sounds like excessive combustion gas blow by, probably from bad piston rings. Loads up the crankcase w/ combustion gasses, PCV valve can’t handle it, pressure builds in the crankcase, and the gasses vent through the valve cover into the line to the throttle body. On the way the gasses entrain oil drops, soaking the line, filling the chamber on top of the throttle body, and then dumping oil into the airstream entering the intake manifold. That burns and creates the smoke you see coming out the exhaust. Bad rings may also be allowing oil to get pulled up past the rings on the intake stroke, adding more oil to be burned in the cylinders.

Check for a plugged PCV valve - middle of the driver side of the intake manifold. Then do a compression check and a leakdown test on the cylinders.

PS: Welcome to CamaroZ28.com !

I'm going to move this to “LT1 Based Engine Tech”. Better chances for tech help than here in “New Member Intro....”.

Re: Hello from Phoenix Arizona

I have been checking it regularly for 2 week and I haven't noticed the level dropping. I have been driving it every day about 15 miles the past two weeks and hasn't dropped after I did the oil change. I used regular 10-40 mobile.
