Heli-coil install with head still on the car?

A breslin stripped out the threads on one of my center bolt holes on the drivers side. I was wondering if its possible to install a heli coil with the head still on the car? Or does the head have to come off? Is there enough clearance?

Its the 3rd header bolt from the firewall, driver side.

Yes you can, but it wont be fun. Exhaust has to come out for sure.

Here is how I did it.

Get the right tools to install it, right size tap and drill bit.

Cut your drill bit down to @ 2" maybe a little shorter depending on how deep you plan to go you just need the tip and enough length for the hole + socket

find a star bit socket / I forget the size - e something. But it will work out to where the drill bit wont slide in, you will need some pliers to screw the drill bit in

now use a ratchet or air ratchet (my choice) to drill your hole - The aluminum is very soft. With the air ratchet it took a few seconds. Mark your bit so you know how deep to go.

you can then tap it by hand but you may need to remove the steering linkage or anything else in the way.

I don't have a picture here, I do at home though.

Definately get as short a bit as you can, make sure your angle is right, I used a pneumatic 90 deg drill it was pretty short, but a 90 degree die grinder with the air adjuste down would do the trick too.

They make right angle tools if you have them available to you.
