Hele me out. MAF problem.

Ok. So I've been getting real horrible gas mileage lately (around 144 per tank) and a constant S.E.S. So for gits and shiggles I filled up my tank and unplugged my MAF. And the car seemed to run the exact same. However when I got to around 144 miles I still had a bit over a quarter tank of gas. Keep in mind it was only for one tank, but I hadn't seen 150 miles out of a tank in a long time, and I am confident that I could of gotten that had I ran the car as low as I usually do. Unfortunatly I have a 95 with OBDII connecter so I can not scan my car at autozone. Is this a sure sign my MAF is bad?

I would suspect the MAP sensor before the MAF, but you really need a scan tool on it to tell you what is going on, so you don't replace parts that are good.

Can you explain why? I don't have easy access to a scantool. But I do however possibly have a way to borrow a known good one from a buddy. How often to MAP sensors go out? Thanks for the speedy response. You and your tech page have been much help in the past.

Because the MAP senses engine load. If is it sick, your gas mileage is the first thing to suffer.

Of course, it could be something else. That is why the scan tool is such a necessity.

I was guessing MAF sensor based on the fact that my gas mileage went UP after disconnecting it. Is that possible for a bad MAF? I will still check them both out. And if nothing comes of it I will suck it up and pay for a scan somewhere. Thanks again.

It is kinda hard to say because the computer will make calculated guesses when there are sensor failures. If you have someone that you can swap out parts with, that would have as good a chance as anything of helping you find your problem.

Get a few of your buds to go together and buy a scan tool you all can share.

I'd love to but everyone else has a pre 95 with the OBDI connector/computer where as I have the OBDI PCM and OBDII connector.

That's not a problem. Adapt it like this . It will work fine.
