Heater doesn't get hot?

Well, since it's getting chilly here now I've started using the heat in my car. The "heat" takes forever to get warm, and it never gets the a stage considered hot. I start my car and let it warm up for like 5 minutes in the morning w/ the defrost on, then drive atleast another 5 mins to school. By the time I get to school it's just warm . I have a 160 deg. thermostat, and adjusted the fans with Hpp. My car doesn't go above 185, but the heat is taking longer to get warm than the engine temp. I would de-program the fans and see if that was the problem, but either the Hpp or my connection for it is bad. I've torn my dash apart and checked the connection and it appears fine Any help appreciated

Sounds like your heater core may be clogged. Had that happen before. Disconnect the hoses going to it and flush it.

Find your 2 heater hoses going to the heater core on the passenger side of the engine. Disconnect them and flush the heater core out. Use a light pressure! It probably has some junk in it.

I agree with the posts for the heater core. Flush it out, it may be clogged.

hmm, mine is also doing the same thing, but my heater core was flushed out last year. Could it be clogged again that quick?

You guys must be cloegged. I have a 160 thermo as well with reprogrammed fans, Temp never goes above 185 as well.. My heat is still pretty hot... Hope you find out its only a clogged heater core.. Let us know what happens.

Another vote on flushing the heater core. I did it last year when I wasn't getting any heat and after alot of crud came out, the heater worked like a charm.

It is because you collant isn't hot enought to heat up the air passing through your heater core. My car does it too and I have to change my 160 thermo for the winter time just to get some heat outta the thing cause up here in canada it gets as cold as -40. well it does at least where i live.

I tried flushing out the cooling system a couple of times and verified that the heater core wasn't cloged and was still freezing my b___s off. What finaly worked for me was taking the flow control valve for the heater core and installing it backwards.

Alright, sounds like I need to try flushing the heater core first. My knowledge of cars is limited, and this isn't something I've ever done before. If anybody has a link to a How-to guide or something, or would be willing to explain what I need to it would be greatly appreciated. I could swap the thermo for the winter, but would like to avoid that if possible.....I broke one of the allen heads off when I tightend it after replacing the thermo
