Heater core hose install?

The plastic part on the heater core hose broke and I would like to change it. Is it a difficult process? Is there a write up about it somewhere? Thanks!

Re: Heater core hose install?

I just had to do this... I removed th 3 bolts holding in my glove box and removd it. Then there is ~5 lil bolts I think holding the heater core housing together. There is 1 bolt holding the outsite of the heater core down under the hood (right where the hoses connect to the heater core at the firewall).

remove those 2 hoses, the glovebox and the bols from the heater compartment. Pull the plastic off after unbolting it and you will see the heater core. It takes a little finesse to slide the heater core out but it does come out rather easily.

I spent an hour and half (including a quick trip to Autozone to get a new one). Hope that helps.

Its not really that difficult and I was suprised at how easy it was.

That about it. Took me about 90 minutes too, $65 lifetime warranty core from autozone.

Seriously after hearing horror stories from Ford Taurus cars and various other cars..I was not please that mine broke.. when I saw coolant on the carpet the day I started my car for the first time I was pissed... however as soon as I started in on it.. it was really easy and I wasnt as mad anymore.

Re: Heater core hose install?

Thanks so much for the help guys. But, what I was looking for was the hose that runs from the front of the motor back to the heater core. Thats what broke and needs to be replaced. Any ideas there?

Re: Heater core hose install?

I knew someone would say that. I actually did a search already and came up with heater core replacement but thats not what I need. I need the hose that goes back to the heater core.

Number 13 here on shoebox diagram?:
http://shbox.com/1/heater_hoses.jpg
GM 10188036 [about 8 bux or so from Cromer etc] is the only 'plastic thing' I recall..
It's a 'flow restrictor valve' in the heater hose that's plastic?
You can cut the aluminum crimped clamps off with a Dremel [cut gently thru it and then put a screwdriver into the slot and split it off there]
Then replace that restrictor, and use 2 regular screw type heater hose clamps..

Re: Heater core hose install?

Is that flow restrictor a required part?

My 95 TA (just bought in July) has the heater core bypassed. Since it is starting to get cold out, I went ahead and replaced it (easy to do). I did not want to take a chance of it having a leak after I flushed the system.

The guy I bought the car from just used some splices and made the heater hose loop around and put the bleeder valve on top. Hard to explain, but I want to put it back to stock so I can have some heat this winter.
