Heads for my 385
Heads for my 385
I have a set of LT4 heads that were ported by Lloyd...they have 2.08/1.6 valves, 62cc chamber, 918 beehives, titanium locks/retainers.
I also have a set of CNC'ed AFR 220's that will need some touch up work, but shouldn't be anything major. I have the Jesel off set shaft mount rockers for these as well. The 220's have 2.08/1.6 valves and a 62cc chamber.
I also have a set of Gen I Dart Pro 1's, that would need a lot of work, including setup for reverse flow.
What ever the head choose I'm gonna have them o-ring so I can spray this thing hard...right now I'm thinking about spend the coin on coating some stuff as well.
The block is a 4.04 bore now and should be able to get by with just a hone job, but I'm not a machinist so ????? It has two years of race only time since the last rebuild. I'm 100% going solid roller though.
My goals are to spray this thing HARD, I have a super nice NX direct port on my ported LT4 manifold. I don't have to stick with this manifold, but would really save some $$ if I didn't have to have another manifold drilled and plumbed.
I'm really digging this heads up drag stuff, but I'm tired of bringing my knife to the fight. Mid 9 to high 8 IN DENVER COLORADO will be competitive in my class and that is were I need to be. Currently it's a high 9 low 10 car with the 385 LT4 heads and a 847 cam. I feel the first part of building a motor is picking a good head and matching others to it, so looking for any and all suggestions for this build and head choice.
Thanks,
Joey

Re: Heads for my 385
Go with the most flow. If I'm not mistaken those Darts can be made to flow about 360CFM-- maybe that's not the Pro 1's. 360CFM will make ya 740FWHP IF the rest is spot on. Keep the compression up and don't take it out because of the NO2.
The AFR's sound like a nice set up too.
Ya don't need to "0" ring it as the Cometic gaskets will hold it. They need at least a 50RA finish to work and that's for the heads too. That's pretty slick on the finish.
Ya can find a much better cam than the 847 also. IMO ya should consider a mech roller if it's allowed.

Well you have some good heads...the only one that might be a problem with lots of spray is the LT4's they have a thiner dech surface and that could be the weak link. AFR's are Darts are both great and if the ARS need just a little work have it done and go.
Re: Heads for my 385
Thanks for all the input...deck surface was another concern of mine. I'd really like to use the 220's, just seems that every where I read people say i need to have some sort of forced induction to go with those. Maybe I just need to spin it highier. ?? I'm leaning toward the 220's they flow big and there already LT style, that and the Dart's may not be off the other car untill the bracket season is over.
There's a new gasket out by SCE called the ICS Titan...I'm sold on those over the Cometics. Pricey, but there holding pressure on other applications very well! Has an internal metal ring, there a nice piece.
It will be getting Baurer solid roller speced out for it.
Should I be concerned about the intake at all? With the juice on almost 100% of the time do I really need to worry about my intake flow as much as I would on an N/A app?
Thanks again

Easy enough then...single plain will be going with.
thanks!

I was on Vacation, no phone or internet just beach and beer. IT WAS GREAT!!!!
I figure you need a ton of power to run those numbers up in that altitude, gotta do some sort of power adder to get there.
