Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

Log File

CSV Log File

I recently swapped out my 224/230 cam and stock heads with a PCM4Less OBD 1 connversion to the LE2 setup
I also have Long tubes, Non Self Aligning Rockers 1.6, New Opti, New 255 Fuel Pump.
Along with the LE2 I put in some SVO 30 lb Injectors, And had it retuned from PCM4Less.
Ever since the first start up, It will not idle well at all, When I first start it up, Its not that bad and will idle near 1000, but after it goes into closed loop, It wont idle, The RPM's drop to 400-500 and stays there. If you play with the gas enough you can get it to idle. Also, it has very bad power loss case, Maybe slower than the 224/230 setup, It really doesnt miss or stumble, just feels really slow and doesnt like to rev real good.
Here is some break down of the car.
The IAC counts are kinda high, maybe 100's or so, Not real high due to old motor was around 70.
The MAP kpa is around 60 at idle which I hear is fine for huge cams.
O2's bounce around like normal or how they always have, they seem low WOT nearing 850.
Plugs look really lean.
Car has 5 degrees of knock at idle, Kind of goes away when you rev it, Car has always had knock at idle, So this doesnt alarm me too much.
Rockers are adjusted to 1/4 past zero lash.
All vacum lines are good.
Fuel pump is new.
Injectors are SVO 30 lb.

Any suggestions?
What is the constant supposed to be for the 30 Lb? Mine is 31.65
My car seems to be running very lean, But no idea on the erratic idle?

Vaguely sounds like you might be off a tooth on the cam sprocket. If you can't find any other reason for it to act like it is, you might want to check it as a last resort.

Have you checked the amt of vaccum you have at idle? i would do one of the IAC mods so your car will idle better and your IAC counts will come down some.

Re: Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

To answer Shoebox, I have thought of that alot, Me and a friend did this and we both checked to make sure, By no means am I shooting this idea done though, I will keep it in the back of my mind, I really dont want to tear into it, But once again, Its not that expensive since the intake would not have to come off.........Thanks

I have not checked vacum, I will,

And for that IAC counts, I was thinking about drilling the air foil and the TB a little to let some more air in and do a good cleaning on the IAC, But I may try this for the idle, But then I am really left out in the open for the loss of power and why it doesnt feel right or fast.

Thanks for these ideas, Keep them coming....Im up for all options.

Also I will be posting my datalog file tonight of some WOT and some idling and driving!!!!!

Thanks Again

Do you have a large BLM split at idle?

Re: Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

BLM are pretty close, kinda low I believe, Im not looking but I believe they were near 110 at idle or so. I may be totally off though

Im fearing it is running lean, Since the O2 volts were real low in the 800's and the plugs looked really bad, Alot of white,
I havent checked fuel pressure but I will tonight.

Im still waiting for someone to chime in with SVO 30's to see what it is set at in their computer, does 31.65 seem right?

Im looking for all options

The injector setting is ok. Mine is 34.xx but that was to raise my BLMs up b/c they used to be kinda low like yours.

Re: Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

So, in other words, Low BLM;s can mean what?
Could that be a reason for bad idle and running slow?
Thanks

Low BLM just means the combustion mixture is too rich. As long as the BLMs down hit thier min. value of 108, the idle should be fine. Is your car an m6 or a4?

Re: Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

Rich is really not what I had in mind.
My car is an M6.....
Also when trying to start, With most cars, when it starts it cranks up then idles a hair high and then settles down,
Mine will start and barely run at 400 or so and then idle its way back up?????!?!?!
If that helps any

Re: Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

Maybe your IAC is shot. Id think the counts would be closer to 160 to expience idle problems though.

Too bad you did so much work all at once... problem could be with any of those mods.

Re: Heads Cam, Wont Idle Power Loss

Alright, i am thinking its not mechanical, Because its fine when it is in open loop
I am looking at the log and everythign seems fine till it goes into closed loop,
Then the BLM's split one side going as low as 109 while the other is 128 at idle.
Andit wont idle, 400 RPMS, and so on and so forth
Im about to load up the file, give me a few
