Heads and cam or 12 bolt

Well basically I'm going to do one this summer and probably one next summer. I was leaning towards heads and cam for this year, but one of my friends said I should go for a 12 bolt because I wont get traction without drag radials. Basically will the car be controllable with a heads and cam package on street tires? Or should I keep my current setup(cai, headers, exhaust) and get a 12 bolt and drag radials.
Thanks

I don't think you need a 12 bolt right now. If you go with a heads and cam package along with drag radials you would later on need a 12 bolt. You will not get traction with street tires with a heads and cam package. Btw is your car an a4 or m6?

I went with a 12bolt in my car due to the fact that even with my stock setup I was annihilating my rear end. I broke 4 rear ends with my stock motor. I have a M6 and I drag race at the track almost every weekend. I wanted to be consistent at the track so I went with a 12 bolt and some ET streets. If you want to have a fast street car I think a heads and cam package first is a better option. Its a lot more fun cruising with a loud rumbling car instead of cruising around with a car that you can't feel much difference except for the fact it rides rougher. If you have a auto definately go with the heads and cam. If you frequent the bracket races in your area and you have a M6 go with a 12bolt

I second what Trey said. If you have an auto get a support cover and be done with it. There are people running 10's with stock rears. I have an M6 and broke 3 sets before getting my 12 bolt. If you have an M6 you may as well get the rearend.

Trey......what happened to the sig. last night?hehe

Actually I didn't pay attention to what that sig said. The one I was talking about was the TNT hub sig last night. Something about dancing with men or some other gay azz shiat.

yea go ahead and get the 12-bolt for the security purposes and hold off on the H/C. think about it this way if you get the heads and cam you wont be able to enjoy them 100% anyway until you get a 12-bolt rear, while buying the 12-bolt you get a little 6-speed related stress off your back and enjoy the hard launches of 4.10s baby ...you are planning on 4.10s right ?

If I was going to go to the track every week I would without a doubt get the 12 bolt. But I will probably only go about every 2 months or so. This is mainly a steet car, so the heads and cam seems more appealing to me, but pulling 1.8 60's would be so nice. I can't decide .

how bout this i put 4.10's in last year. ran fine. did heads /cam over the winter. ran good for the last 2 months. just blew my rear to crap yes, PURE doggy doo doo this is on street tires, kuhmos at that. im rough with the car, no doubt about it, but its costing me about 1100$ to fix as we speak. worth it?? not at all. if i had another grand or so id pick up a 12 bolt or 9 inch whole heartedly. i just called and searched a bunch of places to find a decent price new or used, but nope. so..... well wait and see how long this one lasts really, i dont know what to tell you though. i chose heads/cam over the 12 bolt, and now look. although theres guaranteed lots of people who havent had problems. do the heads/cam, and when the rear goes, get the 12 bolt good luck

On street tires, damn. Now I am really rethinking the heads and cam. But if I do break it at least I will have an exuse to get the 12 bolt

12 bolt. If you have a solid foundation, you can build anything on top of it. Do the rear, and myabe by next summer, you may have extra cash to slap a power adder also...
