I agree the heads are identical hence they are reversible; sometimes those plugs are a PITA to get out.

....and switching the heads around may end up being the easiest option. Is the temp sensor hole on the correct side not or do you need to swap the plug around there too?

Javier is "right" with his two wrongs!

With all Chevy engines (SCB, BBC & LT 2nd Gens) there is only one head design (completely interchangeable) which will fit on either the left or right bank. Therefore, just remove the water-jacket NPT plugs from the rear and reinstall them in the front of the heads (much easier than swapping the heads around). You also want to use some thread-sealer on the plugs. Then install the cross-over tube in the rear.

UPDATE: failed to get the plugs out... only stripped the hole in the plug. I'm in the process of removing the heads.

Yeah I was going to say b/c you don't pull the threads out w/ the plug. But i guess it saved itself before getting to that point.

I couldnt remove the plug in the temp sensor hole on one of my heads (must have been F-body cores) and I was using pipeplug sockets like these.

I used a thread tap square drive (don't know what size) that fit very tightly in there with a 12pt box-end wrench that also fit over the square part.
Those bastards were tight..thread sealant can't help either.
