Angry this headlight has blew 3 times!!!!

alright, the lowbeam on the passenger side went out on me shortly after i bought the car in december. so i stole a slightly used one off my wrecked 94Z. well it burnt out too a couple months later....so i stole the other lowbeam off my wrecked 94! well now it just went out the other night! had i been buying new headlights my toll would be at $85 now for the passenger side headlight and i've had the car for 9 months. so now i'm thinking instead of replacing the whole lamp, i gonna go ahead and just replace hte bulbs with Silver Stars...much cheaper.
have any of you had this type of trouble? do you think i have a short somewhere? the car is a 97 Z, so it has the daytime running lamps and the headlights turn on automatically. the only thing i can think is this last time i had my headlights manually turned on. i forgot to shut them off when i turned off the car, it could have made a slight power surge go to the headlights. sorry so long, but i'd like to fix the problem rather than replace bulbs every 3 months.
thanks,
Michael.

It's really hard to tell, since you have replaced the lamps with used ones. There is no way to tell how much life there was in them.

Like Shoebox said, its hard to tell since you put used lights in. But you could at least check the connection and the wires right behind them. if you had a short all the time, it would probably blow the fuse right away or burn up wires. Short = very low resistance which makes current go to the max = blown fuse or smoking components.

Those stock lights suck anyway, switch them all out to Silver Stars and you won't be disappointed. I switched mine about a year ago and have had no problems. I also got ride of those stock fog lights because those lights kept blowing. I put them in the wife's honda and it made about 1000% improvement. Check the Appearance section for help on head light improvements.

ok, here's another question. i'm lookin on ebay at bulbs since i seen how much silverstars are at walmart. if i could find a cheap set of hyper whites or something to get me by until i get some kind of a budget to work with (i just got a new job, moved into an apartment, ect). the silverstars are 55watt, so is that what i need? or can i run 80watts?
the reason i ask, is i found some 80w Super-white HID's manufactured by SUGO for like $16. would these work since they are 9006 bulbs?

Heres what you do.
Take the stock bulb, you know the bulb and casing that they force you to buy?
Take the bulb out of it, it does come out its just sealed with this white goop.
Now buy a 9005 I think (thats off the top of my head so it may be wrong) bulb and put some clear silicone around it put it back in the housing and let it sit overnite, you now have a "new" headlight to put back in the bracket.
I put hyperwhite bulbs in mine, they cost me 15 each from autozone.
You can,t do this with the high beams AFAIK.
I also swapped my high and low beams so the lows are on the inside now, no reason to do this its just to be different.
