bottom line is you will gain more hp with lt. and the more you do the car the more you will gain from the mod. like haeds and cam will benifit from shorties, but and long tubes to that same heads and cam and you will make more hp. its just fact.

but take all your goals into account and see if shorties fit in the pic.

ive never seen someone change to shorties from longtubes, but i see alot of the oppisite.
I'm not trying to start a big debate again either, and I also am not knocking LT's.

That's why I brought up AI's site, because it's the exact same heads and cam package that is making 400RWHP with either MAC mids or LT's. The LT's, even at that power level, are not putting out more HP than mids.

I totally agree that LT's with 1 3/4" primaries will support more HP, but it seems that it's a pretty high HP number before the 1 3/4" primaries are needed. Until then, you are hurting your low end TQ with the bigger 1 3/4" primaries.

Compare Brian Santore's (399rwhp SAE and 357rwtq with LT's) car to Eric Buss's(401rwhp SAE and 378rwtq with MAC mids) car. They both have the same heads, cam, and intake manifold.

hmm, well thanks for all the response.. seems like this is mixed some just tell me to use the shorties and some not. i really want these on there so i can hit the track but i also want the best out of my setup. I do have to pass smog but if i relocate the cats that should still be no problem right? and as far as mods i really am just using bolt ons right now. maybe late future i will do a whole head cam package and internals with a rebuild. thanks guys i will hopefully decide what i should do

Federal law prohibits relocation of the cats. If you have biannual inspections and don't want to screw with the issue, by all means, go with shorties. Contrary to what many say, you will not be leaving a lot on the table with them in lieu of a LT, and you'll have a lot less hassle.

Christ, didn't George Baxter make something like 800+ rwhp on shorties? Injuneer has some great posts on threads involving this debate. Try a search if you're interested.
